NASHVILLE—One of Seattle's highlights from their joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on Friday was a Ty Okada pick six during the redzone portion of the practice. The interception that was made possible, in part by a "really great call" and a good read by Okada, was on a pass meant for Titans receiver Carnell Tate.

"Was coming down over the middle, tried to get him to get his eyes off of me and then on a crossing route was just able to read it and play off of him and go out there and make a play," Okada said.

He added, "And so it was a great call by Coach Mike and just was able to take advantage of it, which was nice."

The pick six, which was a positive for Seattle's defense, was Okada's latest showing of a player with a growing confidence in himself.

At this time last season, Okada was competing for a backup role.

"He's got a ton of confidence," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "And he's taken on more of a leadership role too, in terms of really holding our younger guys to a higher standard, which is great. We need that right now from those guys. But from my stance, he's playing really good football."

Okada, who had a breakout season in 2025, playing in place of injured players, started 11 games and recorded 65 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, six passes defensed and one fumble recovery through 17 games.

Becoming a starter has empowered Okada to play without worry.

"It builds that trust in not only myself…but also just having the trust of my coaches and teammates and the ability to go out there and play free instead of going out there to not make a mistake or not lose the job or not screw up," Okada said. "It's all about 'Let me actually go attack this, take advantage of it, be the player that I know I can be.' Having that confidence has helped tremendously."

Having experienced almost a whole season as a starter has made all the difference for Okada in his play on the field.

He said, "It starts with understanding what we're doing on defense and then how we're going to do it and just continuing [to understand] 'Why is he calling certain calls in certain situations?' The deeper that I grow in that understanding, the comfort level grows with me, and it helps tremendously."

His teammates can see the difference a year has made for Okada too.

"I think where Ty's grown at is he's just more in command in his voice and speaking up when things aren't right," Ernest Jones IV said. "And he's just also just taking the next level to his game, being ahead of plays, being that safety in the back that you depend on Ty. You know Ty's going to be where he needs to be. I think that's just where he's at in his career and where he's always been."

Okada's mindset is "It's me versus me every single day."

"And so ultimately it's just me looking in the mirror and trying to grow any way that I can on and off the field," he said.

The Seahawks traveled to Nashville, Tennessee and participated in a joint practice with the Titans on Friday, August 21.
