Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, who opened the season on the physically unable to perform list, has been designated to return to practice, clearing the way for him to take part in football activities starting Thursday.

Charbonnet, who tore his ACL in Seattle's divisional round win over the 49ers, still has to sit out one more game before he is eligible to return from the PUP list, but this allows him to begin ramping up toward his eventual return.

With Charbonnet returning to practice, it opens a 21-day window during which he can practice without counting towards the 53-man roster limit. After 21 days, Charbonnet must be added to the roster or remain on the PUP list for the entire season.

Asked on Wednesday about Charbonnet potentially returning to practice, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said, "It's a matter of how many practices they need, roster spots and things like that. He's doing a great job and he's in a great position mentally. It's just about what's the best time and how does that create the most opportunities to get them ready to play? We've got the Denver week. There's not a lot of great practice (opportunities) that week. How does that affect it? There are some other things going on that we've just got to work through, but we'll decide by tomorrow. He'll either practice tomorrow, or he won't."
