The Seahawks exercised the fifth-year options on cornerback Devon Witherspoon and receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the team's two first-round picks from the 2023 draft.

By using the fifth-year option, the Seahawks keep both players under contract through 2027, though having finished their third season, both are also eligible for long-term extensions, something that is not precluded by using the fifth-year option. After exercising the fifth-year option on 2022 first-round pick Charles Cross last spring, the Seahawks were able to sign their left tackle to a long-term extension in January following the end of the 2025 regular season.

Both Witherspoon, the No. 5 overall pick, and Smith-Njigba, the 20th pick, were the first players at their respective positions selected in the 2023 draft, and both have been outstanding for the Seahawks, including standout seasons in 2025 that helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl LX.

Witherspoon has earned Pro-Bowl honors in each of the past three seasons, and last year was named one of the top 50 players in Seahawks history. Smith-Njigba, who earned Pro-Bowl honors in 2024 and 2025, emerged as the league's top receiver last season, leading the NFL with a franchise-record 1,793 receiving yards on his way to first-team All-Pro and AP Offensive Player of the Year honors.
