Mike Macdonald Praises Nehemiah Pritchett's Playmaking: 'He's Earned A Role On Our Defense'

Third-year cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett made two big plays on Sunday, and is playing “really good football” for the Seahawks, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.

Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett started his Seahawks career as a player who played mostly special teams when he was drafted in 2024 and then again in 2025. The third-year player has since carved out a role for himself as Seattle's No. 3 cornerback in 2026, and on Sunday he notched his first regular-season interception.

Pritchett, who had an interception during a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, said Sunday's interception was similar to that one he made last preseason.

"Seeing the exact same thing and just so happened to be in the right call," he said. "... Mike (Macdonald) just put us in a really good play call and it allowed me to jump the route."

On a third-and-7 play, hoping to get the first down, quarterback Brock Purdy threw a pass near the sideline intended for receiver Jacob Cowing. Pritchett pounced on the ball and returned it 20 yards to regain possession for Seattle. The Seahawks were then able to go down and score a touchdown three plays later.

"Nehemiah played a great game, man," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "... He's earned a role on our defense. The third corner spot was going to be something that needed to be competed for throughout the offseason and he didn't shy away from it and came every day and did a great job and just stuck to the process and just kept making plays. So he's earned a role for us, which is great for him and it's good for us."

Along with the interception, Pritchett also had a pass break-up on defense and a came up with a big play on special teams earlier in the game.

"Probably the best play was a special teams play," Macdonald said. "So guy's playing double duty, has a gunner and has a corner for us. So guys should be really proud of himself, the position he's put himself in. He's playing really good football."

That play by Pritchett on special teams came in the first quarter when he laid a perfectly-timed hit on Cowing on a punt return. Cowing muffed the punt on the box official box score, but Pritchett's hit ensured Cowing never had a chance to recover the ball. Instead, it was Seahawks tight end Eric Saubert who recovered for the turnover, which led to a Seahawks touchdown six plays later.

"I take pride in playing gunner," Pritchett said. "So, I know we preach in our special team room that gunners make the special team room go, so we're just trying to go out there and make plays."

Linebacker Ernest Jones IV added: "Mighty's (Nehemiah Pritchett) balling, man. Mighty's playing really good. Just taking advantage of his ops, man. Whenever he's out there, he's going out there taking advantage. So he's doing a great job."
