If you ask around the Seahawks locker room, the same person who talks the most smack, is the same person who receives love back from his teammates. He also might be one of the loudest people on the team too. Seahawks outside linebacker Derick Hall, whose boisterous voice can be heard in the locker room, throwing friendly jabs at teammates, or on the field talking crap to an opponent, is the same player that has earned the respect of his teammates and the respect from coaches.

"There's nobody that talks more shit or gets more shit talked at to than Derick," teammate Julian Love said. "Everyone's on his ass all the time. And at the same time, everyone is hugging him, dapping him up because it's work. It's really special when you know they earned it. It wasn't given. It wasn't a draft status thing, clout, none of that. It's all work. He's special and there's not a person in the locker room that doesn't love D. Hall. He's loud, he's funny. But he's a pro.

He's the loudest one in the locker room. I mean, Spoon's a close second. D. Hall, man, he's overly strong. When we're messing around. He's the first one to show love and also roast a little bit. And so that balance… he's just a contagious energy."

On Wednesday, Hall signed an extension with Seattle, locking in the fourth-year defender in through 2029. Hall has been a disruptor in both the run and passing game for the Seahawks. He had a standout second year, recording 8.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble returned for a touchdown in 2024. Though his numbers in 2025 don't tell that same story, because of a very deep pass rush rotation, he was still effective and his contract extension is proof of that.

Love said, "You watch any tape, any play, any cutup, you're like 'OK we have to account for 58.' And when you have a guy like that, you need to reward that."

His teammates and head coach Mike Macdonald all use the same word to describe the way Hall plays: Violent.

And if you want proof of that, turn on the Seahawks' 2024 preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, a game Love says they still play in meeting to this day.

"There's a play where tight end goes across the ball. That's a crazy play to bring up. But the violence that he had on a tight end spilling, we still show that clip," Love said. "That's just who he is. He is strong as hell. And he has a motor that is high. When you have those two things where somebody's willing to rush the passer, but also stop the run, that's how we're built. We don't do that kind of, like, chasing stats stuff, and he doesn't do that. He's a complete d-end for us. He's just violent. He's probably the most violent person on our defense."

Hall, who has spent his whole life overcoming odds, beginning at birth when his family was told he had just a one percent chance of surviving, said that what he's been through has built the way he plays on the field.

"I think that's just who I am at my core," he said. "I feel like when I go out on the field every day, even in practice right now at OTAs, you kind of have to tame and take care of each other and take care of the way you practice. But my goal is to displace you and get to the ball. I think that's what we eat, think and breathe on [the] defensive side of the ball. There's no man between you and the ball at all times and whether that be run or pass. Obviously, I'm working different things in my pass rush this off season to really enhance my game, but you can know power's coming, you can't stop it. And I think that's just the mentality that I have. And I think it really stems from growing up and everything that I went through. I hit stuff head on. I go straight through the process and there's nothing that's going to stop me."

Hall added, "It's unbelievable. It's unimaginable and just to continue to show people, no matter where you start, no matter where you come from, there's always hope."

The pinnacle of Hall's 2025 season came during the very last game of the season, during Seattle's 29-13 win over the Patriots in the Super Bowl, where hall recorded 2.0 sacks.

"Last year was pretty tough for me," Hall said. "I mean, obviously the pass rush rate was high, the pressure rate was high, but it was hard for me to get home. And I'm like, 'God, I'm there. I'm there. I'm there." And man, I was letting it worry me so much and one night I just prayed. I'm like, "Lord, whenever the time comes, I'll be here. I'll be prepared. I'm just continue to do the work, continue to go out every day and put my best foot forward.' And what better time for it to show itself on a worldwide stage, the Super Bowl and I was just overjoyed. I was so overjoyed for that moment. Knowing all the work that I put in all year and having show up at that time, it was pretty special for me."

After that performance, he already knows where exactly he wants to improve this season.

"It's just the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more for me and I know there's so much greater heights that I can go to in my game of ball and just continue to work towards that every single day.

"Detailing out my game, detailing out my pass rush. Again, power is my thing. I feel like I set the edge. I played around really well, but just being able to get back out on edges, being able to set up my rushes a lot better and turn those pressures and hits that I had last year in the sacks and getting there just that much of a tick faster. And I think we're drilling that every single day and that's what I'm working. I haven't worked any power and that's just what it is for me. I'm just trying to put the nail on the hammer, keep pushing the envelope and continue to grow in the areas where I feel like I need to grow."

Hall went from a rookie, who saw a little bit of playing time, but didn't start, to a breakout player in his second year, to a core member of Seattle's defense in his third year and now will step into his fourth year looking to flourish more.

"Just signing that extension and walking in the meeting and walking in the locker room, it was just so special," Hall said. "Everybody's so happy for me and vice versa for me to be able to stay here and continue to play with these guys is very special to me."

Hall said, "This place is really special to me. I really love the game of football. The money enhances our job and what we do, but it's really about the love of the game."

The Seahawks held their fifth practice of OTAs on Wednesday, June 3 at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
