The accolades keep coming for Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who in his third season in the NFL had one of the best single seasons by a receiver in league history.
On Monday, Smith-Njigba checked in at No. 5 on the NFL Top 100 Players list, just the latest recognition for the 2023 first-round pick, who was named AP Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Pro after the season, and who was, for the second time, a Pro-Bowl selection. Smith-Njigba was also named one of the 100 most influential people in sports by Time magazine earlier this offseason, and he also became the highest-paid receiver in the league this offseason when he signed a multi-year contract extension. And, of course, he also became a Super Bowl champion in February when the Seahawks beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LX.
Smith-Njigba's breakout 2025 season saw him pile up 119 catches for 1,793 yards, the eighth highest single-season total in league history, and second highest by a player who went on to win the Super Bowl this year, trailing only current teammate Cooper Kupp, who had 1,947 yards in the Rams' 2021 championship-winning season.
"The way he runs routes is so elusive, and it's hard to get a tell on what he's about to do," said cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who has been matching up with Smith-Njigba since the two of them arrived as first-round picks in 2023. "He's able to create separation, he runs routes fluently, efficiently. The way he can track the ball in the air is one of none. He can do everything. He can run any route, he makes contested catches. He's going to have a big year again this year. I'm waiting to see that too."
Smith-Njigba is the fourth Seahawks player to land in the Top 10 of the NFL Top 100 Players list, which began in 2011, joining Richard Sherman, who was No. 7 following the 2013 season, Marshawn Lynch, No. 9 after the 2014 season, and Russell Wilson, No. 2 after the 2019 season.
"He's a foundational piece, he's a cornerstone of our team. Just being able to see his growth over the two years that we've been here," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after Smith-Njigba signed his contract extension this spring. "I mean, the sky's the limit. This is the beginning. This is another iteration of our football team, and Jax is obviously going to be a huge part of it and where we want to go and where we want to take our team, and I know it's early in his career, but he's already a leader on our team and will be for a long time. So we're really excited."
Smith-Njigba is one of three Seahawks who were named to the Top 100 along with linebacker Ernest Jones IV (97) and quarterback Sam Darnold (21). Among those somehow left out of the Top 100 were defensive lineman Leonard Williams and cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who were both Pro-Bowl and second-team All-Pro picks last season.
