Tuesday Round-Up: Seahawks' Tyvis Powell Among ESPN.com's Top 30 Undrafted Free Agents To Watch

A daily link round up of what's "out there" about the Seattle Seahawks.

!

Good afternoon, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Tuesday, May 10 - about your Seattle Seahawks:

Tyvis Powell 2016's UDFA To Watch?

Late in the 2015 season, 26 of the 53 players on the Seahawks' active roster were undrafted, a list that included key contributors like wide receivers Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, defensive end Michael Bennett, offensive linemen Garry Gilliam and Patrick Lewis, cornerback DeShawn Shead, and running back Thomas Rawls.

Seattle has received plenty of playing time from players who were passed on in the League's annual selection process and time will tell whether or not one of the 13 undrafted players the Seahawks signed this year will make a mark.

One of those 13 undrafted players Seattle signed, Ohio State safety Tyvis Powell, made ESPN.com draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.'s list of the Top 30 undrafted free agents to watch (Insider). Powell, who's listed at 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds, was a three-year starter for the Buckeyes who led the team with three interceptions last season.

"A good athlete with some length," Kiper wrote. "Powell came up with big plays at Ohio State, but he was surrounded by talent and had weaknesses masked."

Powell joins a Seahawks secondary that already features Pro Bowl safeties in Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas, so if he makes the team he would likely provide depth to the defensive backfield. But coach Pete Carroll's initial review of what he saw in Powell was positive when the Ohio State standout came up after last Friday's rookie minicamp practice.

"Wow, what a great looking kid he is. Golly," Carroll said. "Big and strong, he runs well, he had great workouts, he had a nice career playing ball there. ... He looks like a tremendous athlete. Fits in the mold. He ran in the 4.4s. ... Real bright kid and upbeat kid, so he's off to a good start with us."

Tweet Of The Day

Today's "Tweet of the Day" comes from Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who spotted a "special guest" at Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center ahead of Tuesday's voluntary offseason program practice.

Boyle also shares three key takeaways from coach Pete Carroll's Monday morning conversation on 710 ESPN Seattle, one of which includes a new role for Brandon Browner.

In non-football news, Pete Carroll said he's sticking with his classic Nike Monarch IVs and the Seattle coach also broke out a brief Irish jig this past Sunday in front of rookie running back Alex Collins, an avid Irish dancer.

Nick Patterson at the Everett Herald talked with fullback Taniela Tupou at this past weekend's rookie minicamp. Tupou, a Marysville native and former defensive tackle for the Washington Huskies, was one of the five rookie minicamp tryout players Seattle signed Monday.

And Peter Schrager at FOXSports.com lists running back C.J. Prosise as one of five NFL rookies who will have an immediate impact in 2016.

Members of the Seahawks rookie class joined the veterans for a Phase Two offseason program practice on Monday at Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
