Fredd Young, a linebacker and special teams standout for the Seahawks in the 1980s, died Tuesday at the age of 64.
Young, a third-round pick out of New Mexico State in the 1984 draft, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks, and earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his four seasons with Seattle, as well as first-team All-Pro honors in 1987.
A fan-favorite on the Chuck Knox-era Seahawks teams, Young began his career as a special teams standout, then took over a starting linebacker role in his second season, totaling 338 tackles in three seasons as a starter. Young had 9.0 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and an interception in 1987 to earn All-Pro recognition, and last year he was honored as one of the top 50 players in franchise history.
Young was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, who loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, their children, Jessica, Freddy Jr. Matthew, Monroe, Fenix, Jeremiah and Amirah, and grandchildren Jaysha, Jarah, Jianika, Titus, Cassius, Justus and Sunday.
The Seahawks drafted linebacker Fredd Young in the 3rd round of the 1984 NFL Draft and he would go on to play his first four seasons in Seattle, making four Pro Bowls and earned one All-Pro nomination.
