JACKSONVILLE—On the very first play of Seattle's game on Sunday, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II sacked Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. That play would prove to be indicative of how the rest of the game for Seattle, specifically its defense, would go. Heading into Sunday's matchup, Lawrence had been sacked six times through five games. And following the Seahawks' 20-12 win, that stat had more than doubled, with Seattle getting to Lawrence for seven sacks.

"We got a dog front seven," rookie Nick Emmanwori said following the game. "We got a dog D-line."

Linebackers Drake Thomas (1), DeMarcus Lawrence (2), Uchenna Nwosu (1.5), defensive end Leonard Williams (0.5), and Murphy II (2) all combined for those seven sacks.

Emmanwori said, "We just had a mission, especially coming off of last week, that tough loss we took. We were really disappointed as a defense. That wasn't our best showing and we knew we had more in the tank. We basically were like, 'man we gotta lock in.'"

Seattle did in fact lock in, finishing with a team total 66 tackles, 17 quarterback hits and seven tackles for loss to go along with the seven sacks.

The Seahawks also gave Lawrence the highest pressure rate he's seen all season, pressuring on 25 of his 50 dropbacks. Seattle had five defensive players with four or more pressures on Sunday. Nwosu led the team with nine pressures, Lawrence had seven pressures, Murphy II also had seven, Boye Mafe had six pressures, and Williams added four pressures.

Murphy II credits that to, "Everybody being on the same page, communicating with one another, everybody having the same mindset, the same goal, and we just hold ourselves to a certain standard. And also too, just rushing as one. That's how we was able to get to the quarterback, create negative plays"

Seattle's defense, despite being without key players in cornerbacks Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen, as well as safety Julian Love and linebacker Derick Hall, was able to rebound from a loss last week that didn't reflect who they are as a whole.

"We just literally said, 'Stand up. We're going to stand up. We're going to make a play. D-line, we need you,'" Emmanwori said. "We got to cover so they can get the sack. They got to get the sacks, so they can help us. So it's hand to hand."

Murphy II added the team learned, "from our mistakes going into this week, with a chip on our shoulder, especially going on the road. We knew we had to get this win. It was a big win and we was able to do that. We came in here, we handled business. That's what we did."

At the forefront of making the defense come alive on Sunday was Lawrence, who finished the game with five tackles, 2.0 sacks for 16.5 yards and five quarterback hits.

Head coach Mike Macdonald said, "D-Law played a tremendous game. He had two sacks. To be able to play the run the way we played the run, he's one of the guys leading the charge there. Just the mentality, too. The guy is just an absolute beast."

Lawrence was coming off an injury that kept him sidelined for Week 5

"It gave us a lot of spark," Murphy II said on Lawrence's return. "He brings so much energy to the team, to the D-line, also to the room as well. We love D-Law. He's a hell of a player, as you can see today. He balled out, so it was great having him back."

Seattle was able to contain the Jaguars run offense, which came into Sunday's matchup having rushed for at least 100 yards in four of their first five games. Through five games, Jacksonville had rushed for 200, 139, 86, 151 and 109 yards. The Seahawks held the run game to just 59 yards on 19 attempts and held Travis Etienne Jr. to 27 yards on 12 runs, averaging 2.3 yards per carry.

"Congrats to the whole defense," Emmanwori said. "We played a great defensive game. Rush and coverage bounced back from the week before."

He added, "We had a mission for sure, to put this team on notice."

Emmanwori played in just his second game after missing Weeks 2-4 with an injury he sustained on one of the first few plays in Week 1.

"I thought he did a great job," Macdonald said. "I think you can feel him out there on the perimeter. There are details now that we can go to work on, where we can take the game to the next level, where he can grow. That's what's exciting. You're also making adjustments with him on the sideline. It's not too big for him. He's taking it in. He understands. He's executing at a high level. Yeah, I'm excited to see where Nick takes his game. It's great to have him out there."

Emmanwori tied the team high tackles with nine and had a tackle for loss.

Seattle showed that it's a team that can bounce back, even without their full starting lineup.

"I think we have one of the best D-lines in the NFL to be honest. Our D-line is nasty… Teams do not want to face that," Emmanwori said.

"When we all get back as a defense, we're taking the league by storm."
