RENTON, Wash. - Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor was named the 2016 Steve Largent Award winner, which is voted on annually by the players. Chancellor was presented with the bronze trophy by the first winner and trophy's namesake, Pro Football Hall of Fame and Seahawks Ring of Honor member Steve Largent, during an on-field presentation prior to Seahawks versus Rams game. The award is given to the player who best exemplifies the spirit, dedication and integrity of the Seahawks. Chancellor also received the award in 2014.
"Kam exemplifies true leadership on the field and in the locker room," said Largent. "His passion and on-field play reinforce the definition of the Seahawks."
Chancellor was selected with the second pick in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He has started 81 of 97 games played in seven seasons totaling over 500 tackles and 13 interceptions.
Voted defensive team captain by his teammates for the 2016 and 2014 seasons, Chancellor played a critical role in leading the team to a Super Bowl XLVIII title and back to a second consecutive Super Bowl appearance in 2014. He helped Seattle's defense lead the NFL in scoring for four straight seasons (2012-15) and lead the NFL in both scoring and yards allowed for two straight seasons (2013-14).
In 2013, Chancellor launched the Kam Cares Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Kam Cares seeks to equip children from underserved communities in Hampton Roads and Seattle areas with educational, health, and wellness tools and resources to position students for greater academic success.
