The Seahawks are Super Bowl champions, and after one heck of a celebration at Wednesday's parade, things are quieting down a bit now, which makes this a great time to open up the mailbag and answer some questions from you, the fans?"
@hollykeefe06 asks, "What was the most memorable part of the Super Bowl or the celebration for you?"
A: Easily, the answer here is being able to see players enjoy the well-earned celebration that comes with a Super Bowl title. You've no doubt heard players talk about how close this team is, isn't just some sports cliché, this particular collection of players really did form a special bond, so when they spent more than an hour celebrating in the locker room on Sunday night, it was a really fun, and at times, emotional scene at Levi's Stadium. Two days later, the party continued with a parade, which gave players a chance to celebrate with their city and with their fans, and as someone tasked with helping capture the moment, I was fortunate enough to see a lot of those player-fan interactions up close, and it was a pretty special experience.
@segdeha.com on BlueSky asks, "Was there ever a point in the game where you were concerned that the Pats might be able to come back?"
A: Not really, no. And that's not to disrespect a really good Patriots team that was deserving of the AFC championship it won. It's just that, having seen how good the Seahawks were all season, and having been able to see up close how, to borrow one of Mike Macdonald's favorite phrases, loose and focused the team was all week leading up to the game, I just didn't see a scenario, short of committing multiple turnovers and falling way behind, in which the Seahawks would lose. So even if the Seahawks missed some early chances to blow the game wide open early on, those early field goals felt like more than enough the way the defense and special teams units were playing.
@MrEd315 asks, "How much roster retooling do you expect with the Seahawks this offseason?" And on a related note, @wenfot asks, "How many players are free agents now? How difficult will it be to re-sign them?"
A: According to overthecap.com, the Seahawks have eight players set to become unrestricted free agents when the new league year begins next month, unless, of course, new deals get done before then. That list includes 2022 draft picks who will be finishing out their four-year rookie contracts—Boye Mafe, Kenneth Walker III, Coby Bryant, Riq Woolen and Dareke Young—as well as Rashid Shaheed, Josh Jobe, Josh Jones and Chazz Surratt.
I'm not going to predict how many of those players will be back, but obviously coming off a Super Bowl title, the Seahawks will no doubt want to keep as much of the team intact as they can. That being said, free agents on teams coming off of a championship tend to be popular in free agency, so depending on what other teams are offering, the Seahawks probably won't be able to keep every player listed above.
Losing anyone off championship team is tough but that's the reality of every NFL offseason—the 2026 team will have a lot of carry over, but it won't be the same roster.
@rosebug22.bsky.social asks, "Who are the top offensive coordinator candidate to replace Klint Kubiak?"
A: Asked about replacing Klint Kubiak, who was named the head coach of the Raiders earlier this week, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said on his weekly appearance on Seattle Sports 710AM that "a really important part of what we want to do is have continuity." In other words, there's a really good chance that Kubiak's replacement is someone already on the offensive staff. Macdonald and John Schneider will do their due diligence, so there's no guarantee that it's a current assistant, but given how late of a start the Seahawks are getting replacing Kubiak, as well as the fact that they enjoyed a lot of success on offense this year, it would make a lot of sense to keep as much of that offensive staff in place while promoting someone who can put their own take on a proven West Coast system.
@WeaponNext asks, "How does the Super Bowl afterparty work for the acts that perform? Are they scheduled by the team and go on win or lose? Or do they get sent to the winning team's celebration?"
A: Those Super Bowl afterparties are way too big of operations to not be planned well in advanced. That means both teams, win or lose, have them set up well ahead of time, and the show goes on, win or lose. The Seahawks celebrated this year at a party that included performances by Ludacris and T-Pain, while, according to media reports, the Patriots' party included Post Malone, 21 Savage and Nelly. And while it might be tough for fans to picture a team and staff and friends and family to be attending a big party after a Super Bowl loss, it's worth remembering that, win or lose, that day marks the end of a really long season, and a successful one that is worth celebrating, even if the game didn't go that team's way.
Warrenotwasteland.bsky.social asks, "Does Rylie Mills' emergence affect the likelihood that Seattle moves on from a veteran D-lineman who is still under contract?"
A: Mills, who had what might be the best first-career sack in NFL history (I have no way of verifying that claim), was a late addition to the team, coming off the non-football injury list late the season, the result of an ACL injury suffered late in his final season at Notre Dame. That impressive sack, and his improvement since joining the active roster, bodes well for his future, but I don't think that would be at the expense of a current veteran, but rather as an addition to an already deep group. The defensive line was one of the strengths of the team, and all the top players in that position group are under contract, so I just can't imagine wanting to subtract from that group rather than just allow Mills to add more depth to it.
@gamer71904 asks, "How many hours of sleep did the admin get Sunday night?"
A: I checked in with a couple of our social media folks, and the answer was in the 2-3 hour range. I fell in a similar boat getting about three hours between the afterparty and having to get up to head to San Francsico for the day-after press conference with Mike Macdonald and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III.
Being part of a Super Bowl winning organization is a lot of fun. It's also pretty exhausting however, but worth it.
@holliwinters57.bsky.social asks, "The Seahawks only have four draft picks for 2026, what are the chances the Seahawks ether trade a player for picks or trade back in the draft for more?"
A: If John Schneider were reading this, I'm sure he'd sarcastically say thanks for reminding him. Obviously, the Seahawks would prefer to have more picks in any draft, but they're also thrilled with the contributions they got from Rashid Shaheed this year (2026 fourth and fifth-round picks), so they aren't complaining. You can never rule anything out, but as a team coming off a title and looking to stay on top, I don't see the Seahawks wanting to move current players to add picks, but there's aways a real possibility, especially given Schneider's draft history, that the Seahawks could move back, to acquire more picks.
The last pick of the first round, a slot the Seahawks earned by winning the Super Bowl, has become a popular pick to be traded in recent years, the reason being that teams have fifth-year options on first-round picks, but not later rounds. That means, should a team, or even better, multiple teams, really like a player still on the board as the first day of the draft ends, Schneider and company could have an opportunity to slide back into the second round and add multiple picks for doing so.
@DonyellFreak asks, "Who's the best golfer on the team?"
A: Quite a few players on the team enjoy playing golf, especially in the offseason, and Julian Love even got all the defensive backs and coaches fancy new putters as holiday gifts, but I'm quite sure the best golfer, by a pretty good margin, is kicker Jason Myers.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald is a pretty avid golfer, or he was before he became a head coach and had a kid, and he has raved about how good of a golfer Myers is. Just to be sure, since I take this mailbag so seriously, I consulted with FOX 13's Curtis Crabtree, a good golfer himself and a big golf enthusiast who has talked golf with plenty of players. He concurred that Myers is the clear No. 1, while the other list of players who are pretty into the game includes Love, Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DeMarcus Lawrence and Cooper Kupp.
