JACKSONVILLE—The Seahawks downgraded cornerback Riq Woolen from doubtful to out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, the result of a concussion suffered in last week's game.

Cornerback Shaquill Griffin and safety Jerrick Reed II elevated from the practice squad as well. Griffin gives the Seahawks needed cornerback help with Woolen out and with cornerback Devon Witherspoon listed as doubtful due to a knee injury. Reed provides safety depth with starter Julian Love doubtful due to a hamstring injury.

This will be Griffin's second game this season, having also appeared in Seattle's Week 2 win in Pittsburgh. A 2017 third-round pick and former Pro-Bowl selection, Griffin spent his first four seasons with the Seahawks before signing with the Jaguars as a free agent in 2021. After two seasons in Jacksonville, Griffin spent time with Houston, Carolina and Minnesota before returning to Seattle this offseason.

With Woolen out and Witherspoon unlikely to play, Griffin could be called upon to have a role in the defense on Sunday along with healthy cornerbacks Josh Jobe, Derion Kendrick and Nehemiah Pritchett, and Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald would feel good about turning to the veteran cornerback Sunday if that's how things play out.

"Shaq could be part of the plan based off of what's going on, yeah," Macdonald said Friday, later adding, "I love having Shaq out there because he competes. He attacks all the mental stuff, he knows it, he's got a great attitude, and he competes. We can go into games with that for sure."

Reed, a 2023 sixth-round pick, has appeared in one game this season, playing six snaps on defense and 29 on special teams in Seattle's Week 3 win over New Orleans.
