The Seahawks claimed quarterback Danny Etling off waivers on Tuesday, giving them a fourth quarterback along with veterans Russell Wilson and Geno Smith, and undrafted rookie Anthony Gordon.

Etling, who was waived by the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, was a seventh-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2018. Etling spent his rookie season on New England's practice squad, then after being waived by the Patriots during training camp last year, he was claimed by Atlanta.

Etling spent most of 2019 on Atlanta's practice squad, though he was signed to the active roster to serve as the Falcons' backup when Matt Ryan was sidelined for their Week 8 game against the Seahawks. Etling completed 17 of 31 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown in the preseason last year.

Etling was a two-year starter for LSU, throwing for 4,586 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 23 starts for the Tigers.

If Etling is able to stick around for the start of the regular season, he'd see his former team in Week 1, as Seattle opens its season at Atlanta.

The addition of Etling, along with Tuesday's signing of defensive tackle P.J. Johnson, gives the Seahawks 80 players on their roster.
