SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and KIRO Radio announced Regina Landon from Rainier Beach High School as week seven CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Regina will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the Seahawks vs. Buccaneers game on November 3.
Regina, a senior at Rainier Beach High School, was selected the CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week based on her dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership and athletic performance. Regina holds a 3.8 GPA while serving as an elected ASB member. Regina works hard to educate her peers, teachers and members of her community on social justice issues such as the successes and challenges of women of color in the United States. She is currently producing an analysis and critique on the feminist protest of the '60s. In addition to studying social justice issues, Regina serves as captain of both the softball and volleyball team. She has worked to build up the softball team by recruiting young women who have never played before and organizing some of the most successful fundraisers the school's athletic department has ever seen. Her softball coach says, "If I could fill a team with players like Regina, I would do so in a heartbeat."
Each student athlete will be recognized at his or her school in front of families, peers and teachers, as well as at a Seahawks game. Each winner will also receive a $1,000 grant to their school's Athletic Department from the Seahawks along with media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football, and a customized 2019 Seahawks jersey. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to high schools over the course of the program.
