After having the day off for Christmas, the Seahawks are preparing for their last East coast trip of the regular season. Seattle will play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
"We had an awesome day and probably an all-time great Christmas up to this point," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "So really blessed. It was a great day."
Outside of that, here's what we learned from coach Mike Macdonald's press conference:
Updates On Coby Bryant & Other Injury News
"It's just a process on getting him back," Macdonald said. "We've just got to go through it, but he's working his tail off, and hopefully we'll get him back soon."
Josh Jones Getting The Start Again
After getting his first start with Seattle last week against the Los Angeles Rams, Josh Jones is expected to be making his second start of the season in place of an injured Charles Cross.
Following that game, Macdonald said, "Josh (Jones) did a great job coming in for Charles (Cross). Not playing after a while and not getting full speed reps all week, maybe it took him a little bit to get his feet wet, but once he did, I thought he thought he did a great job."
Jones had appeared in 11 games prior to last week and ahead of Sunday's game Macdonald said, "Well, the guys were excited for how he played and to see him on tape making plays for us. But I wouldn't say our expectations change at all or confidence in what he can do. I don't think any of that changes."
Injured Reserve Player Updates
Right now Seattle has a handful of players on injured reserve including receiver Tory Horton (shin), running back George Holani (hamstring) and linebacker Chazz Surratt (ankle). On Horton, Macdonald said there is no update on his injury, but that he is working to get back.
"I really think it's a matter of if we're going to get there or we're not going to get there," Macdonald said. "As a coach, it's like, yeah, of course we want him back yesterday, but it's just not the way it works. So the more time you spend worrying about it, you're going to drive yourself crazy. So he's working really hard, our trainers are doing a great job. It's just, it's the nature of the beast."
On the likelihood of Holani or Surratt making a return this season, Macdonald said they are still working through what that looks like.
"We got to make some decisions based off of how many slots we have left, but those guys have done a tremendous job. They're there working and they're coming right along. They're good." he said.
Macdonald was referring to the number of players a team can bring back from injured reserve during the season. In the regular season, a team can designate up to eight players to return from injured reserve and two additional players during the postseason. This season, the Seahawks have already brought back Eric Saubert, Jalen Sundell, Julian Love, Jarran Reed, Robbie Ouzts, Christian Haynes and Dareke Young from injured reserve, meaning they have one more spot for the regular season and two for the postseason.
