Bobby Wagner's return to the Seahawks in 2023 was a big success, both on the field and off.
And on Thursday, Wagner earned yet another honor, winning the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award at NFL Honors.
Wagner, who spent the 2022 season with the Rams after playing his first 10 seasons in Seattle, earned Pro-Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors while recording a league-high 183 tackles.
Wagner was also voted a team captain for the seventh time in his career, won the team's prestigious Steve Largent Award, and was named the Seahawks' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
Wagner can now add to all of those other honors the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.
Wagner is the 10th winner of the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, which since its inception in 2014 has gone to some of the league's best and most well-respected players: Larry Fitzgerald, Charles Woodson, Frank Gore, Luke Kuechly, Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson, Teddy Bridgewater, Matthew Slater and Calais Campbell.
"It means a lot," Wagner said of winning the Art Rooney Award. "Anytime you get voted for anything by your fellow players, I think that speaks volumes. It's another cool thing to know that your peers view you a certain way."
For Wagner, playing the game at a Hall of Fame level while also being known as a good guy on the field came from watching some of his sports idols growing up.
"Watching Kobe, Jordan, LeBron, Ray Lewis, Ken Norton Jr., you watch them, they're fierce competitors, but they also play the game the right way," Wagner said. "It was just watching those guys and wanting to be like them."
