To determine the teams, ESPN looked at the same collection of sports from their 20 most dominant athletes list and adjusted the data twice, "once to normalize teams from a given sport across time and again to put top teams across different sports on a common baseline. This means all sports and all years can be considered equal." Among the best 20 teams to make the list is Seattle's 2013 team that defeated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII for the first championship in franchise history. At No. 12, the Seahawks were one of two NFL teams to make the list, with the 2004 New England Patriots also qualifying at No. 15.
