Supporting Urban Artworks
Urban ArtWorks is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage youth and communities in the creation of public art that inspires connections and honors their voices. Since 1995, they have collaborated with more than 2,000 youth and hundreds of artists to create thousands of public art installations in over 30 Seattle neighborhoods and 10 different cities. They envision a world where all people have access to the transformative experience of creating public art.
They achieve their mission and vision through 4 core programs:
The Mural Apprentice Program (MAP) provides arts-based employment training for youth with barriers to employment and education. Teens work together with professional teaching artists to learn basic art skills, research, design, and install murals throughout King County and beyond.
Their Mentorship Program is an opportunity for teens who have completed the Mural Apprentice Program, to continue their arts training with a one-on-one mentor. Their mentor, a professional artist, works with the young person to develop their own portfolio and install their own public art pieces.
Their School-based programs are customized projects to support an arts-integrated curriculum where K-12 students work alongside professional Teaching Artists to explore themes, design and install art in their schools.
With their commissioned and community murals they work with business owners and organizations to facilitate interactive community engagement around the research, design, and installation of murals and public art in specific communities.

About The Artists: Don & Ryan Clark
In the beginning … there was passion, manifested only as doodles in the margins of school text books. From very early in our childhood, we knew exactly what we wanted to do with our lives. This passion, though possibly unrealized at the time, was not altogether arbitrary. Our grandfather, Alfred Paulsen, had been an illustrator throughout his entire professional life- 28 years of which he spent at NASA. Additionally, our father devoted a good deal of his spare time in the home workshop, crafting perfectly executed woodworks in the form of furniture, toys and various other goods. The desire to create, and the potential to do it with precision and imagination, was simply ingrained in us.
