High School Football Crew of the Month

Crew of the Month

In partnership with the WIAA, NFL, and NFHS, the Seattle Seahawks are proud to recognize outstanding high school football officiating crews from across Washington state. Each month during the football season, one crew is selected for demonstrating excellence, professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the game.

NFL Crew of the Month Nomination

Inland Empire Football Officials Association

The five members of this Inland Empire Football Officials Association crew—Referee Steve Felker, Umpire Chuck Latimer, Head Linesman Barry Huck, Line Judge Jack Jensen, and Back Judge Rob Bartlett—represent what education-based athletics asks of officials. Their collective story is not simply about rules knowledge, mechanics, or postseason assignments. It is about commitment, service, perseverance, mentorship, and an understanding that officiating exists first to serve student-athletes and the game.

Steve Felker has dedicated nearly 30 years to high school football, working approximately 30 games each season while investing heavily in the development of others. A longtime board member, former association president, and current Director of Training, Steve helped transform the IEFOA scrimmage into a meaningful training environment where officials can learn through realistic situations and constructive feedback. His example demonstrates that an official's influence extends well beyond Friday night.

Chuck Latimer has demonstrated that same commitment for 25 seasons. His service includes officiating, assigning, observing, and mentoring. He helped develop a succession plan for assigning and used his professional legal expertise during COVID to help address statewide paperwork concerns affecting officials. Perhaps nothing illustrates his willingness to serve better than stepping into an injured official's position during a state championship game, finishing that contest, and then returning the next day to work his own championship assignment.

Barry Huck embodies perseverance and commitment. After being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in December 2023, undergoing a stem cell transplant, and missing the entire 2024 season, Barry returned to football in 2025 while continuing maintenance chemotherapy. That season culminated with selection to officiate a Washington state semifinal. His return reflects an extraordinary dedication to the game, his fellow officials, and the student-athletes they serve.

Jack Jensen represents the importance of growth and mentorship. After working through a difficult 2023 season, he sought guidance, continued improving, and earned his first playoff assignment in 2024. More importantly, Jack now intentionally works with newer officials, helping first-and second-year members develop confidence and feel that they belong.

Rob Bartlett similarly views officiating as something to build, not simply something to do. Since beginning in 2019, he has trained first-year officials, led the association's video program, helped develop flag football officiating in Eastern Washington, and continued sharing his experience with others. His record reflects leadership centered on giving back to the sports community.

Together, these five officials demonstrate why Crew of the Month should mean more than identifying a crew that calls an excellent game. They exemplify honesty, objectivity, commitment, service, resilience, and a willingness to invest in others. They understand that in education-based athletics, officials are not merely arbiters of the rules; they are educators, mentors, role models, and stewards of the game. That shared commitment to something larger than themselves makes this crew worthy of consideration for NFL Crew of the Month.
