Snap Counts From The Seahawks' Week 3 Loss At Tennessee

A look at who played and how much they played in Seattle's Week 3 loss at Tennessee.

Curious who plays in each game and how much they play, as well as what the distribution of playing time might mean? Throughout the season, we'll post the snap counts for the Seahawks the day after each game and take a look at what stood out.

Offense

  • Four of the five linemen, including Oday Aboushi, who was making his first start as a Seahawk, played all 73 snaps, as did quarterback Russell Wilson. Rees Odhiambo missed one snap, being replaced by Matt Tobin, who also saw a couple of snaps as a sixth lineman.
  • Rookie running back Chris Carson led his position group by a pretty large margin, playing 56 percent of the snaps, while C.J. Prosise played 37 percent, including a lot of action in the second half as the Seahawks were running more no-huddle offense. Thomas Rawls played one snap, and while active, Eddie Lacy did not get into the game.
  • Tight end Jimmy Graham played 66 percent of the snaps despite an ankle injury that had him listed as questionable, while Luke Willson played 34 percent and Nick Vannett played eight percent.
  • Tyler Lockett led receivers in playing time at 90 percent (66 snaps), followed by Paul Richardson at 61 snaps, Doug Baldwin (51), Tanner McEvoy (25) and Amara Darboh (11). Baldwin, who usually leads this position group in playing time, left the game early in the fourth quarter with a groin injury, but not before piling up 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Defense

  • Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, K.J, Wright, Bobby Wagner and Earl Thomas all played all 73 defensive snaps, while Jeremy Lane missed only one due to his shoe falling off on a play.
  • Michael Bennett led the defensive line rotation at 88 percent playing time, followed by Cliff Avril (73 percent), Sheldon Richardson (70 percent), Jarran Reed (68 percent), Frank Clark (44 percent), Nazair Jones (29 percent), Marcus Smith (21 percent) and Garrison Smith (seven percent).
  • Michael Wilhoite made his second straight start at strongside linebacker and played 58 percent of the snaps. Shaquill Griffin was the third corner in when the Seahawks played nickel, playing 41 percent of the snaps, and there were two plays with safety Bradley McDougald serving as the extra defensive back in nickel, with McDougald recording a tackle on one of those plays.

Special Teams

  • Wilhoite led the way on special teams, playing 92 percent of the snaps, followed by McDougald at 89 percent, McEvoy at 79 percent, and Tre Madden at 73 percent.
  • Dewey McDonald, usually one of the team's top special teams players, hurt his knee on the opening kickoff, meaning the Seahawks played almost the entire game without three of their best special teamers since Neiko Thorpe (ankle) and D.J. Alexander (hamstring) were both inactive.
