Six Injury Updates From Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll

Six injury updates from Pete Carroll's Week 11 Wednesday press conference.

Pete Carroll met with the media on Wednesday afternoon ahead of his team's first practice for this Sunday's matchup with the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers. Here's six injury updates from the Seattle head coach:

1. Bruce Irvin Likely Out vs 49ers

Linebacker Bruce Irvin sprained his MCL in the Seahawks' 39-32 loss to the Arizona Cardinals this past Sunday and will likely miss this weekend's game against the Niners as a result.

"He's got a sore knee and he's going to miss this week unless something miraculous happens," Carroll said. "Hopefully we can contain it to a two-week thing if that's the case."

If Irvin is out, Mike Morgan would be the next man up at strongside linebacker with Kevin Pierre-Louis also involved in the rotations. Originally an undrafted free agent signee of the Seahawks in 2011, Morgan reminds that he's "been playing in this defense for nine years" when also counting his time playing for the Carroll-coached USC Trojans.

"I'm just excited about the opportunity to get out there and play like always," Morgan said. "Football is football, I'm just going to go out there and do my job and have fun."

Irvin typically lines up as a defensive end and rushes the passer in Seattle's nickel defense, a job Carroll said would go to rookie defensive end Frank Clark and second-year pro Cassius Marsh in Irvin's absence.

"With Bruce not going [Frank's] going to get more turns and he and Cassius will give us a good swing at that spot in the nickel if Bruce isn't available," Carroll said. "Bruce has been playing really well and really given us a lot of firepower, so we're anxious to see those guys go at it. Frank, he's played well enough and positioned himself to be there for this opportunity and we're real excited about the future. I think he's got a lot of cool stuff that he can do."

2. Paul Richardson Feels Better Than What His MRI Showed

Paul Richardson, who was moved from the team's physically unable to perform list to the 53-man active roster prior to this past Sunday's game against Arizona, hurt his hamstring after hauling in a 40-yard catch from quarterback Russell Wilson in the game's second quarter, his first grab since injuring his ACL in the 2014 playoffs. Carroll said the MRI on Richardson's hamstring "showed that he had something," but the wide receiver claims he feels better than what the tests revealed.

"He doesn't feel it and he has really good strength in his hammy, so it's a little misleading right now, we need to find out what that means," Carroll said. "We're not going to know until we start to work him. He's resting again today and then we hope to find out. He actually feels pretty good about it, he doesn't sense that he's hurt, but he did feel it in the game and then it did show up on the MRIs, so we're treating the player instead of the MRI right now."

Carroll said Richardson would jog on Thursday, at which time the team should know more about his status.

3. Marshawn Lynch Will Take A Break Today

Running back Marshawn Lynch, who was questionable with an abdominal injury but played against Arizona, came out of the game feeling "a little sore" according to Carroll. The Seahawks head coach said Lynch would receive a day off from practice to start the week.

"The way I heard it he was better Monday than he was Saturday, so we'll have to see what happens one day at a time here and see how he's going," said Carroll. "This is his day to get a break, so we'll break him today and we'll find out where he is tomorrow."

4. Tyler Lockett Said He's Fine

Carroll said wide receiver Tyler Lockett had his ankle "rolled up on" in Sunday's game against the Cardinals, but should be able to play against San Francisco.

"Yeah, he said he's fine and he looked good in the walk thru moving around," Carroll said.

5. Doug Baldwin Has A Sore Toe

Starting wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who caught seven balls for a season-high 134 yards and a touchdown against Arizona, has a sore toe and will rest to start the week of practice. Carroll expects Baldwin to be ready to go against the 49ers.

"Doug Baldwin's got a sore toe, so we're taking advantage of resting him a couple days," Carroll said. "But he's going to be fine to make it."

6. Jeremy Lane Could Be Available To Play This Weekend

Cornerback Jeremy Lane, who also started the season on PUP after injuring his arm and knee in Super Bowl XLIX, could see his first game-action of 2015 this weekend after returning to practice last week.

"He's going to go for it this week," Carroll said. "He'll be a bit limited today, but he's going to practice and if he can make it through the week then he's available to us this weekend. I would really like to see him play this weekend."

That's good news for the Seattle secondary, but Carroll wasn't ready to reveal if Lane would immediately reclaim his role as the team's starting nickel cornerback.

"We've got to wait and see how the week goes," Carroll said. "I can't tell you that at this point, and really, a good chance that I wouldn't anyway. But we've got to see how it goes."

It was an "important week" for the team to get back to the practice field as the Seahawks returned to another Competition Wednesday to prepare for the San Francisco 49ers coming to town.
