The Seahawks placed cornerback Neiko Thorpe on injured reserve Wednesday, the result of a sports hernia injury that required surgery last week. To bolster their depth in the secondary, cornerback Ryan Neal was promoted off of the practice squad.

Neal, who originally entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Illinois, has been on Seattle's practice squad since Week 1 of the season. Neal started his career with Philadelphia, then spent the preseason with Atlanta before ending up on the Falcons' practice squad. He appeared in one game with the Falcons last season, then spent training camp with them this year before being released prior to the regular season.

With Rashaad Penny expected to be out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, the Seahawks also added depth at running back by signing Xavier Turner to their practice squad. Turner, an undrafted rookie out of Tarleton State, spent the preseason with the Seahawks, rushing for 71 yards on 17 carries in four games.

Most notably, Turner led the Seahawks in rushing in their preseason opener, rushing for 42 yards on 13 carries just a day after signing with Seattle. Turner initially signed with Arizona as an undrafted free agent after the draft.
