Seattle's 44-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals featured what ended up being the Seahawks' best rushing game of the season so far. Zach Charbonnet, Kenneth Walker III and George Holani combined for 181 yards and two rushing touchdowns and other rushers added an additional 23 yards, including two AJ Barner short yardage runs.
On Sunday, Seattle's offense called run plays on 78 percent of their plays, the third highest in a game since 2016, per Next Gen Stats. And one drive featured all run plays, highlighting Seattle's commitment to trying to improve the run game. By the fourth quarter, Seattle had built a 38-15 lead and was leaning on their running backs to move the ball and help run the clock out. The Seahawks began the drive on their own 8-yard line after a turnover on downs and the first play was an explosive 30-yard run by Charbonnet.
The next nine plays for positive yards are as follows:
- Charbonnet for nine yards
- Charbonnet for 13 yards
- Charbonnet for nine yards
- Barner for two yards up the middle
- Walker for five yards
- Walker for four yards
- Charbonnet for three yards
- Walker for one yard
- Walker for four yards
There were two rushes on the drive for either no gain or negative yardage.
Rookie Grey Zabel said, "Anytime we can run the ball and continue to run the clock like that is important. You've got to give credit to our running backs. The way they ran it was pretty impressive. We've just got to keep building on that."
In the first game against the Cardinals this season, in Week 4, the Seahawks rushed for a total of 155 yards and one touchdown.
Head coach Mike Macdonald said, "This is the second game in a row now against Arizona that our offensive staff has done a great job of getting to runs that -- through adjustments, part of our game plan, over the course of the game that made our run game finish strong. So both games. They deserve a lot of credit, and you felt our offensive line. Felt like we were physical. Felt like we were going to the right people. We took the line. Thought our running backs played really well. Finished runs the right way."
Myers' field goal at the end of the drive helped extend Seattle's lead 41-15.
