Monday Round-Up: Pete Carroll To Be Honored At ESPN Sports Humanitarian Of The Year Awards

A daily link round-up of what's "out there" about your Seattle Seahawks

!

Good afternoon, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today - Monday, June 29 - about your Seattle Seahawks:

Pete Carroll One Of Four Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award Nominees

ESPN today announced a date for the inaugural Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards, an event celebrating members of the sports industry that use their platform to make a positive impact on society. The network has nominated both teams and individuals for Humanitarian of the Year, including the NFL's San Francisco 49ers and their star wideout Anquan Boldin.

The ceremony will also dole out the Stuart Scott ENSPIRE award which "celebrates and honors any organization or person who has used the power of sport by taking risk and using an innovative approach to aid the disadvantaged, save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain and protect human dignity." Seattle coach Pete Carroll has been named one of the four honorees and he'll receive a $25,000 grant toward his charity work with A Better LA and A Better Seattle.

Here's what ESPN's release had to say about the Seahawks head coach's efforts:

Pete Carroll is committed to helping people be the best they can be on and off the field. Carroll works to identify what is unique about each person, understand and help them create a vision for what they want to be and then keep them connected to that vision. It is in this approach that has led to life-changing impact. Coach Carroll incorporated this philosophy to help transform communities and make them better places to live through his violence prevention efforts via A Better LA and A Better Seattle. He was instrumental to bring Free The Children's We Act & We Day to the U.S. and Seattle in 2013. Annually, students earn their tickets to We Day by completing one local and one global action on any issue of their choice. This program is unique because it provides youth from all types of backgrounds a platform to become agents of change and leaders regardless of their circumstances.

The Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards will take place July 14 in Los Angeles and ESPN will carry highlights from the evening during a half-hour special set to air at 5:30 p.m. PT on July 23.
