RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks and Washington State Football Coaches Association (WSFCA) announced head football coach Dave McKenna, Gonzaga Prep High School, received the Jim Ennis Award for Coach of the Year during a pregame ceremony at the Seahawks versus Browns game on December 20 at CenturyLink Field. Coach McKenna received a $2,000 cash grant for his selection.
Coach McKenna's team captured the 4A State Championship by defeating Skyline 34-16. Using a dominating defense and crushing ground game, the Bullpups finished a perfect 14-0 on the season. Coach McKenna is also recognized for his on-going support of the WSFCA through his participation in the Mid-Winter Clinic. He will also serve as the 3A/4A All-Star Game coordinator to be held this July in Spokane.
"Coach McKenna and his team demonstrated that hard work, dedication, and a passion for this great game leads to success," said President of WSFCA and head coach at East Valley High School Adam Fisher. "His team executes with extreme energy while maintaining class towards their opponent. Dave McKenna and his Gonzaga Prep H.S. football team embody the true essence of high school football."
The NFL High School Coach of the Week award winners in Washington State are selected by members of the Washington State Football Coaches Association.Recipients of the award receive a $500 donation for their football program from the Seattle Seahawks.
