Friday Round-Up: Seahawks Tackle Reading At Local Elementary Schools

The Seahawks Dancers and Blitz visited two local elementary schools this week to ‘tackle reading’ for Read Across America Day.

RoundUp

Good afternoon, 12s! Here's a look at what's out there today – Friday, March 5 – about your Seattle Seahawks.

Reading Across America

Have you read any good books lately? Blitz and the Seahawks Dancers have, and decided to share some of their favorite reads with two local elementary schools to celebrate Read Across America Day.

Occurring every year, Read Across America Day aims to create and celebrate a nation of diverse readers, promoting a variety of books, authors, and teaching resources that encourage diversity and inclusion. Blitz and the Seahawks Dancers virtually visited Glenwood Elementary School and Muckleshoot Elementary School, reading two of their favorite books, "All Are Welcome" and "Lovebirds: The True Story of Raven and Eagle."

At Glenwood Elementary School, we also gave a shout out to MacKenzie Adams, a kindergarten teacher at the school who has gone viral on TikTok for her upbeat and fun lessons to her young students. Racking up millions of views on the social media platform, Ms. Adams was even chosen to introduce the Foo Fighters during the presidential inauguration TV broadcast.

"Like many educators, my passion is engaging young minds, whether in the classroom or through a computer screen. I happened to go viral because of it," said Adams, during the taped segment from Kerry Park in Seattle. "It's been a difficult year for our students and I am so proud of all the teachers, parents and students who have adapted and made the best out of tough time."

Later in the week, the Seahawks Dancers and Blitz visited Muckleshoot Elementary school to continue the reading celebration, reading the Native American children's book "Lovebirds: The True Story of Raven and Eagle" written by local author Sondra Simone Segundo.

Throughout the year, we'll continue to celebrate reading and literacy initiatives, and finding fun and innovative ways to connect with local students and their families.

Social Post Of The Day

Even when we're not playing football, we're always competing.

Today's social post comes from the official Twitter account of the Seahawks, as we promote the Battle of the Bosses CoD 3v3 Xbox and Playstation Tournament. Compete alongside your friends as a Team of 3 to earn the chance to play alongside some of your favorite players in a private CoD tournament!
