Good morning, 12s.

Here's a look at what's 'out there' for today - Friday, February 8 - about your Seattle Seahawks:

Pete Carroll: AAF "An Exciting Venture"

The Alliance of American Football's inaugural season kicks off this weekend, with the San Diego Fleet taking on the San Antonio Commanders and the Atlanta Legends facing the Orlando Apollos on Saturday, and the Memphis Express facing the Birmingham Iron and the Salt Lake Stallions playing the Arizona Hotshots on Sunday.

ESPN.com released an AAF primer ahead of the league’s launch, noting the overall talent level "could be comparable to what would happen if backups on NFL teams played against each other." There's a handful of recognizable names up and down each roster, as well as several former NFL coaches at the head-coaching spots, including former Seahawks head coach Dennis Erickson (Salt Lake).

CBS (channel 7 in Seattle) will broadcast the two opening-day games at 5 p.m. PT on Saturday, and one individual likely to be watching will be Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who in his end-of-season press conference last month referred to the developmental football league as "an exciting venture" Seattle will surely explore as it leaves no stone unturned to find NFL-level talent.

"That's a good topic right now. We're all kind of excited about it," Carroll said. "We're going to take it in and do the evaluations where they allow us to, when we can see them and all that. We'll do all the film work. We'll do everything. We'll break all those guys down. We'll just take it as (another) whole aspect of a feeding system to give us information. The only way we know how to do it is totally go for it, so we're going to really embrace the whole setup. It's an exciting venture, as always, and we think it's necessary. We think it's a necessary opportunity that's been created and we're really excited to see what it turns out (to be). We're going to learn stuff. We'll learn a lot about these guys, and some of these guys are going to play. I think it's great. I hope it works out."

Social Post Of The Day

Today's 'Social Post of the Day' comes from Seahawks president Chuck Arnold, who congratulates former Seahawks staff member Sandy Gregory on winning the Paul G. Allen Award at the 84th annual MTRWestern Sports Star of the Year. The honor is "given to an individual who has made a significant or compelling philanthropic contribution (to Seattle sports)," according to Visitseattle.org.
