Timeout With Brady Russell

1. What is your favorite thing about Colorado?

"Probably just my family being there at this point. Honestly, I always tell people this, I think everything about the state of Washington is better except the road systems are terrible and I can't get anywhere quickly."

2. What is the long-term goal with your farm?

"Well, probably get a cow this offseason. I want to get animals now but obviously that's not very time conducive. But I think I might get some ducks because they're pretty easy to manage and it'd be something easy to start with and then once the offseason comes then I can start growing it a little bit and make myself more self-sustaining. I have a little dog, and she needs some friends. So, she can look out for the ducks on the side while I'm at work and it'll give her something to do."

3. What do you do to stay so high-energy?

"I think that's just my faith. There's a verse, Romans 12:11… part of the verse is 'be fervent in spirit.' Which is to be overflowing, be boiling over in spirit, in the spirit, the Holy Spirit. And some people always ask me why I'm so happy and I didn't have a way to put it for the longest time but then in my church this summer we were going through the Book of Romans and we hit Romans 12:11 and I was like, this is me right here."

4. What does a day off look like for you?

"These last couple weeks has been archery season, so I've been trying to bow hunt. I've done terrible but that's all right, I've had fun doing it. On days off I'll shoot my bow in my yard and stuff. I've never killed anything with my bow so don't think I'm good by any means, but I just want to be good at it. I do a lot of reading, a lot of hanging out. I usually watch my church service on whatever day we have off whether that's Monday or Tuesday. Just laying low, a lot of recovery stuff, try not to do anything too active which sounds dumb because I said hunting."

5. What's your go-to karaoke song?

"'Save a horse (Ride a Cowboy).' I did it last year in Philly as a rookie and it was a real hitter if I do say so myself. If I'm singing in public probably 'Party for Two,' shoutout my buddy Alex Kenney, he's usually Billy Currington and I'm Shania Twain."

6. Do you have a favorite dance move?

"No, not one specific. I'm a huge dancer. I don't know the names; I just move freely."

7. What team member are you letting take care of your farm for a weekend?

"Probably if I'm going for responsibility and someone that's going to nail the job; Connor Williams. If I want to be a little bit entertained by the security cameras I'm going AJ Barner."

8. Do you have a favorite tattoo?

"No, they all mean different things to me. Pretty much all the dudes in my family have our family crest. So that's just kind of representative of our family name and whatnot which I appreciate. I don't know, everything is kind of different. I've got some ducks right here on my elbow because I love duck hunting. Once I'm done with football, I'm going to find a way to duck hunt for the rest of my life. And then there's a Bison which symbolizes a lot of things. I went to (the University of) Colorado so obviously Buffalos but also, it's cool because when a storm's coming, they walk into the storm, and I think that's a pretty cool thing. So, that's a good symbol for when adversity comes. And then on top of that I have a rock from my hometown. It's called Horse Tooth Mountain. Anyways, and then these two I got in my kitchen. My sword and then the little scripture right there… one of my buddy's dads from out of town came in and was like 'You guys want tattoos,' and we were like, 'Yeah let's do it.' And the other one I had texted a tattoo artist that I had used a couple years before and he was like 'Ah I don't have a shop anymore, I could come to your house?' and I was like 'Well sure, whatever works.'"

9. Crop Top or Button Up?

"Normal day, button up, I'm going to wear my pearl snap, look a little western. Crop top is just for the field or the Fourth of July, to be fair."

10. Do you have a guilty pleasure movie or TV show?

"I don't really watch TV. Movie, I said this once, but Forgetting Sarah Marshall is up there. Me and my buddies in college at one point, the last year we were there, we were 0-5 and our coach had just gotten fired, so we were like 'We got to do something different.' It was Wednesday and we had walk through on Thursday. So, we were like 'Hey maybe we should start to do wine Wednesdays and watch a rom-com.' So, we did wine Wednesday and watched a rom-com and then we won our first game that weekend. So, we watched rom-coms every week and drank wine on Wednesdays. We didn't win any more, but we kept doing it."

11. One sentence, who is Brady Russell?

"This is like a really deep question. It could be really surface level, or it could be really deep. Golly. I would probably just use that verse I used earlier, 'a fervent follower of Christ.' That's what I would hope people say about me. So naturally I would say I try to emulate."

12. Did you have any nicknames growing up beside Brady?

"Real name's Braedan… No, my favorite nickname I ever got was 'Wild Bill.' So please help bring that back. When I was in Philly, Dallas Goedert thought my name was Bill Russell. So, my first nickname was Bill. Then they realized I was kind of crazy, so it changed to 'Wild Bill.' And then there was one game where I had blood running down my face and it turned to 'Kill Bill,' so there's just all variations of Bill. And it didn't follow me here and I wish it did."
