Thursday Round-Up: Seahawks Players Popular in NFL.com Draft Do-Overs

A daily link round-up of what’s “out there” about the Seattle Seahawks.

!

Good morning, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today – Thursday, April 14 – about your Seattle Seahawks.

Four Seahawks Picked in First Round of 2011 and 2012 NFL.com Draft Do-Overs

Throughout this week, NFL.com is looking back and past drafts and trying to predict how things would play out if teams had a do-over on their first-round selection. And not surprisingly, the Seahawks had several players come up who weren't first-rounders when they were actually picked.

In his 2011 draft do-over, draft analyst Chad Reuter has Jacksonville taking Richard Sherman, originally a fifth-round pick with Pick No. 10, and the Seahawks taking K.J. Wright, a fourth-rounder in 2011, with the 25th overall pick that was used on James Carpenter.  Landing two first-round caliber players in the mid-to-late rounds is a particularly impressive feat in a draft that featured the likes of Cam Newton, Von Miller, J.J. Watt, A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones and more.

10. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Pick: Blaine Gabbert, QB

Do-over: Richard Sherman, CB

The Jags seem to consistently be in the market for long, tough cornerbacks. Sherman fits that bill, though nobody (except Sherman) expected him to be as good as he's been in Seattle.

25. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Pick: James Carpenter, OT

Do-over: K.J. Wright, LB

Wright has made the most tackles of anyone in this class. Given what they know now, the Seahawks would have picked Wright much earlier than the fourth-round slot where they took him in 2011.

The Seahawks landed a big contributor with their first-round pick in 2012, taking Bruce Irvin with the No. 15 pick, but it's two other Seahawks who show up in NFL.com's do-over. Russell Wilson, who was taken with the 75th pick in 2012, goes No. 2 behind Andrew Luck this time around, while Bobby Wagner, a second-rounder in 2012, goes 16th to the New York Jets. In the video accompanying the piece, Wagner goes even higher, landing in Carolina at No. 9.

2. WASHINGTON REDSKINS

Pick: Robert Griffin III, QB

Do-over: Russell Wilson, QB

RGIII's first year in Washington led many to think that Mike Shanahan had made a great deal in trading up to land the QB. Injuries and the departure of Shanahan led to Griffin's leaving town for Cleveland this spring. Wilson would have been a fit for Shanahan -- though Washington's defense doesn't hold a candle to the group defending Wilson's goal in Seattle.

16. NEW YORK JETS

Pick: Quinton Coples, DE

Do-over: Bobby Wagner, ILB

Wagner's presence in the middle of the Jets' defense, especially with Sheldon Richardson, Jarvis Jenkins and others up front protecting him, would bring back Gang Green in a big way.

No 2013 Seahawks picks cracked the first-round do-over for that year.

Tweet of the Day

We continue this week's theme of posting updates from the Seahawks player workouts going on in Southern California this week, but today instead of sharing a picture of a workout, we'll go with the Orange County Register's picture of players enjoying a day at Disneyland with friends and family.

The big news in the NFL today came from one of Seattle's NFC West rivals, with the Los Angeles Rams making a big trade to get the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft from the Tennessee Titans.

Cliff Avril, Marshawn Lynch and other NFL players flew to Haiti to help rebuild an elementary school, host a mobile medical clinic and a football camp, with the help of international charity organization, Free the Children.
