Good afternoon, 12s.
Here's a look at what's "out there" for today — Thursday, June 22 — about your Seattle Seahawks:
Football Outsiders' Best Teams Of The Past 30 Years
Using their advanced DVOA metric, the staff at Football Outsiders has been looking at the best overall teams, along with the best teams on offense, defense and special teams, of the past 30 years.
DVOA (defense-adjusted valued over average) was used for all of their rankings and it is "built to balance a measurement of how well a team has played in the past with a forecast of how well a team will play in the future." More details of the measurement can be found here.
The Seahawks had four teams included in the 30: 2005 (No. 23), 2012 (No. 14), 2015 (No. 12) and 2013 (No. 6). Here's why they selected the 2013 Super Bowl winning squad the highest:
6. 2013 Seattle Seahawks
*The 2013 Seahawks featured the eighth-best defense in DVOA history. They ranked seventh on offense and fifth on special teams for the season. Seattle's three losses all came by a touchdown or less, and their 43-8 Super Bowl blowout of Denver ranks as one of the 20 best single-game performances in DVOA history. *
*This is the third team from the Seattle DVOA dynasty to appear in the top 30. The other team in that four-year run, the 2014 Seahawks, ranks No. 38 on this list. *
