Shaquill Griffin who made his first appearance this season for the Seahawks in Week 2 against Pittsburgh, made his first start this season on Sunday.
The Seahawks knew there was a chance Griffin would get the start. Knowing they would be without cornerback Riq Woolen due to a concussion and likely be without Devon Witherspoon, they elevated Griffin from the practice squad on Saturday.
"I love having Shaq out there because he competes," Macdonald said on Friday. "He attacks all the mental stuff, he knows it, he's got a great attitude, and he competes. We can go into games with that for sure."
Griffin finished Sunday's game with seven tackles.
"It felt like old times," Griffin said. "I think the last person that was here when I was here that is still on the team is Jarran Reed… The defense they embrace me with open arms and that's all I can ask for. I was going to go out there and play my heart out for them and it worked out."
Griffin is from St. Petersburg and also went to college at Central Florida. He did have some family that was able to come out to the game. He joked that because he found out so late, he didn't have to buy a whole bunch of tickets.
"So funny thing, I had a couple people here, but since I found out that I was playing so late, I didn't have to buy that many tickets."
And while he had some family in the crowd, he also was able to reconnect with some players on the other side of the ball. After playing for Seattle for his first four seasons in the NFL, he signed with the Jaguars in 2021 as a free agent.
"It wasn't weird. I've been here before. The last time I was here was with Houston. [We] made sure we put the belt on them then and put the belt on them now, so it felt great. It's no love lost from those guys. I have a lot of guys that I played with over there."
The Seahawks earned their fourth win of the season after defeating the Jaguars 20-12 in Week 6. Check out the best postgame celebration photos from Seattle's ninth consecutive road victory.
