Seattle Seahawks Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett Named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month

Tyler Lockett, the Special Teams Player of the Week in the NFC, has also been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for December/January.

One day after being named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in this past Sunday's win over the division rival Arizona Cardinals, Seahawks rookie wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for December/January.

In Seattle's final five games, the Pro Bowl return specialist Lockett recorded 244 yards on nine kickoff returns, good for a 27.1-yard average. He racked up 183 yards on 11 punt returns (16.6-yard average), including a franchise-record 139 punt-return yards in the Seahawks' regular-season finale at Arizona, where he became the only player in the past 10 seasons to have three punt returns of 30-plus yards (66, 42, 31) in the same game.

It's the second career Player of the Month award for Lockett, who was honored last September after returning a punt and kickoff for touchdowns through the first three games of the season. He becomes just the second rookie ever to win multiple Player of the Month awards (Tamarick Vanover, 1995).

"I'm really happy that happened after getting selected to the Pro Bowl and all of that for returns and to have a game like that to jump out and kind of prove it," Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said during his Wednesday press conference when asked about Lockett's Player of the Week honor. "He had a huge start and gained a lot of respect early and we weren't able to get him going much after the early part of the year. He was always a factor, you could tell by the way teams were approaching us, but it was great to see him have a big game and get some numbers back out there and it's nice that he got rewarded with that.

"But he's had a fantastic season, he's had a terrific season for us as a receiver as well as the effect as a returner. He's been such a great competitor to hang in all year long with all those hits that he's taken and all that, so he's a fantastic kid on our team."

If you'd like to help Lockett achieve yet another honor, you can still cast a Rookie of the Week vote for him over at NFL.com. Voting is open until 12 p.m. PT on Thursday, Jan. 7.

The Seahawks were all in for the final regular season matchup against NFC leaders, the Arizona Cardinals and team photographer Rod Mar captured the exclusive moments of the team's dominating performance.
