The Seattle Seahawks have signed cornerback Richard Sherman to a multi-year contract, the team announced this afternoon.
Last season he finished second on the team with 85 tackles (78 solo), leading the team with 16 passes defensed with a career-high and team-leading seven interceptions while earning his first-career Pro Bowl berth. His interception total ranked second in the NFC (T3rd NFL) and he tied the club-record with three interceptions vs. Arizona and returned one 84-yards for his first-career touchdown.
Along with Bobby Wagner's three interceptions at Philadelphia the week prior, it was the first time since 1962 teammates have had three or more interceptions in consecutive games (Buffalo Bills' Marv Matuszak, 10/7/62 & Carl Charon, 10/13/62).
Trufant, a Tacoma native and Washington State product, was originally selected by the Seahawks as the 11th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. He has started all 78 career games played and recorded 388 tackles (345 solo), 2.0 sacks, 16 interceptions, 81 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Seattle originally placed its franchise tag on Trufant on February 21.
