The Seahawks signed veteran guard Jahri Evans Saturday, a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro. Guard Kona Schwenke was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.
Evans, who turns 33 later this month, spent his entire 10-year career with the New Orleans Saints before being released this offseason. He started all 16 games in eight of those 10 seasons, and earned Pro Bowl honors every season from 2009-2014.
Prior to the Seahawks announcing the signing, offensive line coach Tom Cable confirmed that Evans had been in for a visit with the team Friday, noting, "He visited. We're always trying to get better."
A day before adding Evans, the Seahawks did more mixing and matching with offensive line combinations than they had up to that point in camp, something Cable said will continue until they find the right combination of players.
"You're going to continue to see that going forward," Cable said. "… We'll shuffled it around a little bit to look at different combinations and see how they work together, but also to see how a couple of those young guys can handle being in the first(-team) huddle against the first defense."

And even before adding Evans, Cable liked what he was seeing from his line from a depth perspective.
"We have good depth and the competition is maybe a little better than we thought, so that's the good news," Cable said. "As we get ready to play these (preseason) games, that'll really sort itself out."
Schwenke signed with Seattle as an undrafted rookie last year, then landed on injured reserve following a knee injury in preseason play.
