Seahawks Kick Off Crucial Catch Campaign With Flag Raising At CenturyLink Field

In partnership with Virginia Mason and CHI Franciscan, the Seahawks held a ceremonial flag raising at CenturyLink Field's North Plaza Friday morning to kick off the NFL's Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer campaign.

A day after the Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams, representatives of the team were back at CenturyLink Field Friday morning to help launch this year's Crucial Catch campaign.

NFL's Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer initiative promotes cancer awareness and early detection. To kick off their campaign, the Seahawks, in partnership with Virginia Mason and CHI Franciscan, held a ceremonial flag raising at CenturyLink Field's North Plaza Friday morning. Taking part were Seahawks president Chuck Arnold and senior vice president of revenue Amy Sprangers, Virginia Mason CEO Dr. Gary Kaplan, and CHI Franciscan CEO Ketul J. Patel.

"One of the best defenses against cancer is a good offense, with a playbook consisting of regular health screenings," Kaplan said. "We are grateful for this opportunity to team up once again with the Seahawks and CHI Franciscan. We know that by working together, we are in a much better position to beat cancer by broadening the public's understanding about why screenings are key to winning against this disease."

Said Patel, "We know that detecting cancers in the early stages increases treatment options for patients and saves lives. We are proud to again be partnering with the Seattle Seahawks and Virginia Mason to raise awareness and educate our communities about the importance of early detection and getting screened to intercept cancer."

The Seahawks will host the team's annual Crucial Catch game on October 20 vs. the Baltimore Ravens, where players will wear wristbands and shoelaces in various colors to represent various cancers that can be detected early. And during the week leading up to that game, they'll also host a group of cancer survivors at a practice.

Throughout October the Seahawks will donate 12 percent of the proceeds from in-store Pro Shop purchases of Crucial Catch headwear to Crucial Cash, which in partnership with Virginia Mason and CHI Franciscan helps local patients who cannot cover the incidental costs of cancer treatment. Fans can also donate to Crucial Cash at all Pro Shop locations in October.

Additionally, the Seahawks will be auctioning off game-worn items from players and coaches to benefit Crucial Cash at Auctions.Seahawks.com.

To kick off the 2019 Crucial Catch campaign, representatives from the Seahawks, Virginia Mason and CHI Franciscan participated in a ceremonial flag raising at CenturyLink Field on Friday, October 4.
