The Seahawks 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday was marred by turnovers that they ultimately weren't able to overcome. Seattle committed three turnovers and the Commanders were able to turn each one of them into touchdowns. But even with the three turnovers, the Seahawks found a way in the fourth quarter to keep the game within reach with a five-play scoring drive.
Seattle was down 33-24 and had the ball at their own 32-yard line with 3:57 left in the game. The Seahawks knew they were in a situation where they wanted to score quickly to give their defense a chance to get a stop and put together another scoring drive.
It took Seattle just over one minute to go down and find the endzone thanks to some big gains. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught three of the passes on that drive for 11, 18 and 15 yards. Second-year receiver Tory Horton caught a pass for 17 yards and Cooper Kupp capped off the drive with a seven-yard touchdown reception.
"[Sam Darnold] was looking for me," Smith-Njigba said about the drive. "We wanted to score by two minutes and eight seconds, so we knew we had to push the ball and he found me. We wanted to put our team in the best position to win."
The touchdown and successful point after made the score 33-31 in the Commanders' favor but on the subsequent drive, Washington was able to convert on two different third-down plays, which allowed them to run the clock out, snapping Seattle's 12-game win streak.
"Everyone had the expectation that we were going to find a way to go out there and win that game," Kupp said. "That's the people we have in our locker room. It didn't finish the way that we wanted to, but the belief is all there. I really believe we were a play away here or there from that end result being different, but kudos the Commanders, they had a good gameplan, they played hard. That's a good football team over there."
