Seahawks Awarded Running Back Mike Davis Off Waivers

The Seahawks added to their running back depth Monday when they were awarded former San Francisco fourth-round pick Mike Davis off waivers.

The Seahawks were awarded running back Mike Davis off of waivers Monday, three days after the San Francisco 49ers waived the former fourth-round pick.

Davis, who played at the University of South Carolina, rushing for 2,165 yards and 20 touchdowns over his final two seasons with the Gamecocks, has appeared in 14 games over the past two seasons with San Francisco, starting one. The 24-year-old Davis, who is 5-foot-9, 217 pounds, has rushed for 108 yards and one touchdown on 54 carries in his NFL career, while adding 63 receiving yards on 10 catches.

Davis is just the latest addition to what figures to be a very crowded and competitive backfield in training camp. With Davis, the Seahawks now have 11 running backs on their roster, including three players who saw significant playing time last year—Thomas Rawls, C.J. Prosise and Alex Collins—free-agent addition Eddie Lacy and recent draft pick Chris Carson, as well as fullbacks Malcolm Johnson and Brandon Cottom.

The Seahawks continued 'Phase 2' of their voluntary offseason workout program on Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5 at Renton's Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
