Rookie Safety Bud Clark Suffers Broken Ankle In Seahawks' Preseason Loss To Titans

The Seahawks lost two players, safety Bud Clark and offensive lineman Mason Richman, to significant injuries in Sunday night's game at Tennessee.

NASHVILLE—Seahawks rookie safety Bud Clark broke his ankle in Sunday night's preseason game against the Titans, head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed after the game.

Clark was injured on the Seahawks' first defensive snap of the game and had an air cast placed on his leg before being carted off. Clark's injury was one of two feared to be significant coming out of the game, Macdonald said, with offensive lineman Mason Richman also limping off the field early with an injury.

Those two injuries come on the heels of receiver Jake Bobo suffering a season-ending knee injury in Friday's joint practice with the Titans.

"We had two really tough injuries today," Macdonald said. "Bud has a broken ankle to my knowledge, the severity I'm not sure, but he's going to be out multiple months. Then we're going to try to figure out what's going on with Mason, but we also think that's a major injury, a long-term injury. Two guys that we love that play our style of ball that are our type of guys. Teammates love them, great teammates, great guys, great football players, they have great futures. It's a heartbreaker, honestly. We got three heartbreakers this weekend, which is tough."

Before Clark was carted off, the entire Seahawks team, as well as several Titans players, surrounded him on the cart to show love to the rookie.

"To see how the team reacted, I think we had the whole team go out there to give him some love," Macdonald said. "I think that tells you what everybody thinks about him."

The Seahawks also were without safety Rodney Thomas II, who is dealing with hand injury.

"He has a hand," Macdonald said. "We'll if and when he's coming back on time."

Clark was pushing for a significant role in the defense, meaning Macdonald and the coaching staff will have to reevaluate their plans for the secondary.

"We're going to have to reevaluate where we're at, but we saw some good things today out of AJ (Finley) and D'Anthony (Bell), so we'll see," Macdonald said. "Max (Maxen Hook) I think did some good stuff, but we'll definitely have to reevaluate."
