Next Gen Stat Of The Week: Seahawks Defense Dominant In Win Over Vikings

NFL Next Gen Stats offers insights that illustrate how impressive Seattle’s Week 13 defensive performance was.

The Seahawks beat the Vikings 26-0 on Sunday, their first shutout win since Week 3 of the 2015 season.

The scoreboard, the five turnovers and the yardage total—the Vikings' 162 yards were the fewest by a Seahawks opponent since the 2015 Vikings gained 125 yards in a Week 13 loss to Seattle—paint a pretty good picture of how well Seattle's defense played.

But for a deeper dive in Seattle's standout defensive performance, NFL Next Gen Stats provides a few other impressive notes.

Per Nex Gen Stats, Minnesota's Expected Points Added per play of -0.79 was the third lowest by any team this season, and the Vikings' success rate (24.0 percent) was the fifth lowest in a game this season.

As usual, Seattle's pass rush was a big part of the defensive success. The Seahawks pressured rookie quarterback Max Brosmer on 44.1 percent of his dropbacks while blitzing on only 29.4 percent of dropbacks, and nine different players recorded at least one pressure.

Facing that heavy pressure, Brosmer completed only one of nine downfield attempts (10+ air yards) for 29 yards and three interceptions.
