Leonard Williams Feeling 'Good' & Other Seahawks Injury Updates Going Into Week 5

When Seahawks defensive tackle Leonard Williams was down on the Lumen Field turf late in last weekend's win over the Chargers, he was worried about the severity of his ankle injury.

It didn't take long, however, for the Pro Bowl lineman to realize he wasn't seriously injured, and after practicing fully on Friday, Williams is set to play in Sunday's game against the 49ers. Williams, who was a limited participant on Wednesday before getting a day off on Thursday, does not have a game status on Friday's injury report, meaning he is good to go.

"I just kind of heard a little bit of crunchiness in there when I went down, and just the pain level of it at the time, I was hoping it wasn't something bad," Williams said of the initial injury scare.

Williams noted that had it been a playoff game, he would have tried to return.

"When I went to the (injury) tent, the pain started going away quicker than I would have imagine," Williams said. "If that was a playoff game or something, I probably would have tried to get back out there, but I trust the guys after me to finish the game and close the game, and not let me reaggravate it, and taking care of it throughout the week.

"I feel good. I've definitely been able to get a lot of work on it, range of motion, doing a lot of pool exercises and stuff like that. I feel good going into Sunday."

Another defensive starter who will be on the field Sunday is safety Ty Okada, who is returning after a four-game absence due to a hamstring injury. Like Williams, Okada does not have a game status and is set to return to the lineup.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald praised the job Rodney Thomas II has done filling in for Okada, but indicated that Okada will step back into that starting role

"Rodney's done a tremendous job filing in for Ty," Macdonald said Friday. "Ty's going to play, he's ready to go. He's done a great job doing the things that Ty does. Making plays in the back end. Getting us lined up. Getting us in and out of plays. He's done a great job. He's not rusty at all on the mental side and he's moving around great. Looking forward to seeing him play."

The Seahawks have two players listed as questionable; running back George Holani, who came into the week with a rib injury and sustained a knee injury during the week, and receiver Irv Charles, who opened the season on injured reserve with a knee injury. In order for Charles to play on Sunday, the Seahawks would have to make a move to add him to the 53-man roster by Saturday afternoon.

If the Seahawks need more running back depth with Holani questionable, they could turn to Robert Henry Jr., who was signed off Washington's practice squad this week, if they feel like he is up to speed enough with the offense to play in a game.

"He's done a nice job," Macdonald said. "He's an impressive guy. I'm glad we have him… He's quick. He's been good in the pass protection stuff with the limited amount of time he's been here. Caught the ball out of the backfield. Seems fast. Haven't seen him in a game yet but seems fast to me."

Ruled out for Sunday's game are rookie cornerback Julian Neal, who suffered a hamstring injury in practice this week, and linebacker Chazz Surratt, who will miss a second straight game with a calf injury. Also out is running back Zach Charbonnet, who remains on the physically unable to perform list after a second week of being back at practice. A Thursday game next week could complicate things a bit, but Macdonald did not rule out the possibility of Charbonnet returning to game action for Seattle's Week 6 game against the Broncos.

"He's done great, and we're on schedule here," he said. "Next week's a little tricky with the speed and temp of practice, but I think we're in a great spot going into next week."

The Seahawks practiced on Thursday, October 8 as they get ready for Week 5 vs. 49ers.
