The Seahawks will face the Chargers on Sunday without rookie running back Jadarian Price.

Price, Seattle's first-round pick, aggravated this week in practice the chest injury he initially sustained in Seattle's Week 2 win over the Cardinals, head coach Mike Macdonald said, and as a result has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Lumen Field.

Price was able to play in Seattle's Week 3 game against the Commanders, and practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday, but as Macdonald explained, he aggravated the injury in practice that day, and did not practice Thursday or Friday.

Asked if Price's injury could be a long-term concern, Macdonald said, "Don't know that yet… I'm not sure how long he's going to be out."

Macdonald later added, "By no means is this JD's fault or anything like that. This is what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen. He can't control these things. He's done everything we've asked him to do since he got here. He's had a great attitude. He's been a great teammate. He has a great future. He's going to play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is, and we move forward. I don't think there's any big picture things. It's unfortunate."

With Price out and with Zach Charbonnet, who returned to practice this week, not yet eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list, the Seahawks will turn to George Holani and Emanuel Wilson to carry the load, as well as, should they elevate him from the practice squad, Velus Jones Jr.

"I'm excited to see these guys play," Macdonald said. "It's unfortunate with JD; hopefully this gives him the opportunity to get healthy. We've got guys that are ready to go behind him that are preparing their tails off and are good players. I feel like we have a good plan and we'll go play a game."

In more positive injury news, safety Julian Love is ready to return after missing last week's game with a calf injury. Love practiced fully on Friday after being limited earlier in the week and does not have a game status, meaning he's good to go.

"Julian had a good week at practice," Macdonald said.

Fellow starting safety Ty Okada, who missed the first three games of the season with a hamstring injury, is questionable after returning to practice this week. Linebacker Chazz Surratt, a core special teams player, is also questionable with a new calf injury that showed up on Friday's injury report.

While Charbonnet is not yet eligible to play, he continues to make great progress in his return from a torn ACL suffered in the divisional round of the postseason.

"Zach looks fantastic," Macdonald said. "There's a process to get him physically and mentally ready to go. We understand that, and we'll work with him and make sure he feels great when the time comes for him to come back.

"It's really remarkable what he's been able to do. Think about the journey that entails, just the daily process. We've spoken on what we feel about Zach and what type of person he is. For how he's taken on this rehab and gotten himself in the shape that he's in and the strength that he has is remarkable. Our hat's off to him. We respect the hell out of him, and we want to do right by the process. That's what our focus is on."

Macdonald added that it would be unfair to Charbonnet to say at this point whether or not he could play as soon as Week 5 when he is eligible to come off the PUP list, saying, "For me to make any declaration is unfair to Zach. There's a process. We want him to feel great about when he can come back and we'll abide by that process."
