The Seahawks were back in action Monday following a day off, a practice that included some players returning to action, as well as some special guests in attendance (more on both topics below).

Here are five observations from Day 13 of Seahawks training camp:

1. D'Anthony Bell's pick-six was the defensive highlight of the day.

With Nick Emmanwori sidelined as he works his way back from ankle surgery, there are snaps to be had with the first-team defense, and while the Seahawks aren't necessarily looking for a one-to-one replacement for one of their most unique and physically gifted players, one player who has been taking advantage of the opportunity at hand is veteran safety D'Anthony Bell. Bell, who spent most of last season with the Seahawks before being claimed off waivers late in the year, re-signed with Seattle this offseason, and has enjoyed a good camp, which, at times, has included working with the No. 1 defense. And on Monday, Bell turned in the defensive highlight of the day, stepping in front of a pass to nab an interception, which he took all the way back for a pick-six while being chased by celebrating defensive teammates.

"It was great to see him make a play today," Macdonald said. "He's doing a good job. There's a lot of competition for the job that he is trying to earn himself, so it's a process. One day at a time, but D Bell is doing a good job. It's going to come down to special teams; how we package our personnel groups, things like that. He made a great play today that was awesome."

Bell wasn't the only defensive player to come down with an interception on Monday. Linebacker Patrick O'Connell also had a pick, snagging a pass over the middle of the field near the goal line.

2. JSN vs. 'Spoon is always a great battle.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon have been close friends since joining the Seahawks as 2023 first-round picks, but they're also fierce competitors on the field when they line up across from each other.

The two have had plenty of great battles in this camp, and on Monday, Smith-Njigba got the better of his friend for one of the biggest plays of the day on offense, a long touchdown catch from Sam Darnold. Witherspoon had good coverage on the play, running stride for stride with Smith-Njigba, but just before the ball arrived, the All-Pro receiver showed some veteran savvy to create a little bit of separation, utilizing a subtle push off to gain a step on Witherspoon, which resulted in the cornerback's leaping effort coming up just short.

3. Derick Hall is freakishly strong.

In a playful post-practice moment that was captured in the first episode of Hard Knocks, Derick Hall lost a brief wrestling match to teammate Leonard Williams, but while Hall couldn't quite best his veteran teammate, he frequently puts his serious strength on display on the field. One such demonstration of Hall's power took place during Monday's practice after running back George Holani caught a short pass. Defensive players don't tackle to the ground in practice, but there is still contact, and when Hall put a shoulder into Holani, he didn't just stop the running back, he knocked him backwards and off his feet.

4. The Seahawks had some special visitors from the Navy and United States Coast Guard on hand for Monday's practice.

While Monday's practice was closed to the public, the Seahawks still had a smaller crowd on hand, and this was a special group of visitors, members of the United State Cost Guard and Navy who were on hand for the annual "Change of Command" ceremony the Seahawks take part in each year. Following practice, Macdonald and his team spent time signing autographs and talking with members of the armed forces. =

"It puts things in perspective and we're so thankful for our military men and women," Macdonald said. "I was joking with a couple of guys in the Coast Guard, you put me out in the ocean, that is not a good combination. We're thankful for what they do. It's an easy way for us to show a part of our appreciation for what they do. Wish we could do more."

5. Several players are working their way back.

While the Seahawks are still practicing without some key players, including Emmanwori and rookie running back Jadarian Price, several players who have been sidelined in camp were back on the field on Monday. Rookie cornerback Julian Neal did limited work in practice, and was one of several players back in uniform along with receiver Jake Bobo, defensive lineman Mike Morris, receiver Jake Bobo and outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff.

"He's on his way back, which is exciting," Macdonald said when asked about Neal. "We have a few guys that are kind of entering the ramp-back-into-practice mode, which is nice."

The Seahawks opened the week with a practice on Monday, August 10 at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
