Justin Britt Questionable And Other Injury Updates From Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll

Seahawks coach updated his team's injury status heading into Sunday's game vs. Houston.

The Seahawks wrapped up their practice week Friday ahead of their Week 8 game against the Houston Texans, and for the first time this week, center Justin Britt was back in action after missing the previous two days with an ankle injury.

Britt, who sprained his ankle against in Sunday's win over the Giants but was able to finish the game, is officially listed as questionable on this week's injury report, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll sounded optimistic about the center's chances so long as his injury responds well to Friday's work.

"He did practice today," Carroll said. "He made it through the practice. We're listing him as questionable just to see what happens (Saturday), but he did well today. We'll see that that means."

Britt's status also affects the plans for rookie lineman Ethan Pocic, who started last week at left guard, splitting time with Mark Glowinski. Pocic is also Seattle's No. 2 center behind Britt, so he would play there if Britt can't go. Carroll said Pocic will start at left guard if Britt plays, and added again how impressed coaches have been with the rookie's ability to move seamlessly between positions.

"He just continues to be unfazed," Carroll said. "Really, he's just unfazed. Today he got all of his work at the guard spot with the first group, which was good. He's just unfazed by it. He is so accustomed to moving so much over the years that it's just normal for him. He's a very unusual player and has very unique qualities, and it's really special that we got him. If Justin goes, then he'll start at left guard."

Also listed as questionable is cornerback Jeremy Lane, who has missed the past two games with a groin injury, and who also sustained a finger injury in practice this week.

"He jammed the ends of two fingers pretty violently," Carroll said. "He got banged up pretty good there for an unusual play, so we'll what happens. He's pretty sore today. He was able to practice today. We'll find out what happens tomorrow and Sunday all the way up to game time. We held him out today, but he practiced yesterday and looked fine."

Defensive end Marcus Smith is listed as questionable as well, but will likely play, Carroll said, "He twisted his ankle a week ago, and was sore going into the last game. He's going to play unless something happens on Sunday in the workout pregame."

Not expected to play is running back C.J. Prosise, who came back from an ankle injury last week, only to aggravate the injury in the first quarter.

"He could not get out there today, couldn't make it," Carroll said. "So I don't know how he could overcome this, but he's doubtful right now. Maybe something happens tomorrow or Sunday, but he's not looking like he's got a great chance to play."

Defensive end Dion Jordan, who opened the season on the non-football injury list, won't play this week, but did return to practice this week and showed some encouraging signs.

"That's a positive story," Carroll said. "That really is a good story. He looked good in the limited stuff he did on Wednesday. We worked him a lot after practice in pads to make sure we could make sure we can control the situations. He came out again yesterday and had another real positive day, felt good. Today was his first chance to really go in all the drills and get the team work and all that. First off, we're just so grateful he has a chance, it has been such a long haul to get back. It has been two years. He has been great with us, he has done everything we've asked him to do, he's in good shape right now—he'll get in better—but he's in good shape for practicing, and he's got a chance to help us. Everything looks very positive right off the bat. But let's see what happens weeks over. We'll get him another good workout Sunday, we'll have another week next week, see where he is, then we'll start talking about what that means. It's very, very positive, I'm really happy for him."

While not injury-related, it's also worth noting that the Seahawks will have Dwight Freeney available this week after signing him on Tuesday. Carroll was impressed with how quickly the veteran pass-rusher was able to pick up the defense.

"He has picked stuff up immediately," Carroll said. "I don't know how he can learn so fast. He has great feel for that. I do know how he learned some of it because he played for Danny (Quinn) at Atlanta, and that's really helped him. No hesitation on playing him this weekend. He's ready to go."
