LOS ANGELES—With two defensive ends ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, the Seahawks added depth at that spot, promoting Branden Jackson off of their practice squad. Linebacker Justin March-Lillard was waived to make room on the 53-man roster.
Jackson, 25, joined Seattle's practice squad last month after spending the preseason and training camp with the Oakland Raiders. Jackson, who is 6-foot-4, 273 pounds, came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech in 2016. After spending most of his rookie season on the Raiders' practice squad, Jackson earned a late-season promotion to the active roster, appearing in three games and recording one tackle.
Jackson gives Seattle help on a defensive line that is without Cliff Avril, who is dealing with a neck stinger, and Quinton Jefferson, who broke his hand Wednesday just two days after re-signing with the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Jefferson will need surgery and is likely out at least four weeks.
March-Lillard was claimed off waivers by Seattle last week and played nine special teams snaps in a Week 4 victory over the Colts.
Additionally, cornerback Jeremy Lane (groin) and running back C.J. Prosise (ankle) were downgraded from doubtful to out.
