Seahawks Sign OT Tyrus Thompson, Waive/Injured Justin Senior

The Seahawks added depth at tackle, signing free agent Tyrus Thompson two days after George Fant sustained a significant knee injury.

With left tackle George Fant suffering a serious knee injury in Friday's preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings, the Seahawks added depth at tackle Monday, signing Tyrus Thompson. Rookie tackle Justin Senior was waived/injured to make room on the 90-man roster.

Thompson, a sixth-round pick in the 2015 draft, started at left tackle during his final season at Oklahoma. He has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers over the past two years. He was released by the Panthers earlier this month.

Fant, who finished last season as Seattle's starting left tackle, had started the first two preseason games and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had said last week that the team was close to settling on a left side of the line of Fant and Luke Joeckel. With Fant sidelined, Rees Odhiambo took over at left tackle during Friday's game, though Joeckel, a left tackle for much of his career in Jacksville, is another option there, Carroll said.

Senior, a sixth-round pick out of Mississippi State, opened camp on the physically unable to perform list due to a knee injury. Senior will be placed on Seattle's injured reserve list if he clears waivers.
