Seahawks at 49ers Inactives

Running back J.D. McKissic is active for the first time since joining the Seahawks.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Rookie running back J.D. McKissic is active for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, meaning he'll make his Seahawks debut after being claimed off of waivers from Atlanta two weeks ago.

The Seahawks plan to use McKissic, who played receiver in college and during his time with the Falcons, at running back, but possibly more significant right now is his background as a kick returner. With Tyler Lockett on injured reserve, the Seahawks need a new kick and punt returner. Receiver Paul Richardson handled kick returns last week after Lockett's injury, while cornerback Richard Sherman was back to field Arizona's lone punt in the second half, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll noted that McKissic, who was inactive for last week's game, could be an option at kick returner going forward. Carroll has not said if Sherman or someone else will handle punt returns this week.

Also active is receiver Kasen Williams, who was promoted off of the practice squad earlier in the week when Lockett was placed on injured reserve. Williams played in Seattle's final two regular season games last season, as well as both playoff games after being promoted off the practice squad.

As expected, running back Thomas Rawls is active after leaving last week's game early with a shoulder injury. Running back C.J. Prosise, who remains out with a shoulder injury, is the only player inactive due to injury.
