Seahawks punter Jon Ryan has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his effort in this past Sunday's 27-17 Seattle win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Ryan punted five times in the Seahawks' Week 4 win, dropping four of his kicks inside the Jets' 15-yard-line, including three at or inside the 10, leaving New York with unfavorable field position against a stingy Seattle defense. Ryan's five punts went for 203 total yards, including a long of 56, good for an average of 40.6 yards per boot, as none of his punts were returned by New York.

"It was a good game," Ryan said Monday on the Kickin It With Jon & Greg podcast. "It was fun. It was a lot of fun. This is my 11th year in the NFL and I've never played the New York Jets in New York before. One of the last teams I haven't played on the road."

Added Seattle head coach Pete Carroll: "Special teams followed through, we had great kicks by Jon and the punting game was really exceptional for field position."

It's the second time Ryan has won the weekly award, making him the second punter in Seahawks history to win multiple Player of the Week honors (Rick Tuten, 3). Through the season's first four games, Ryan is averaging 39.0 yards per punt.

"I think that going into this bye week at 3-1 is good," Ryan said. "Everyone wishes we were 4-0, calm down, we all do too, 3-1 is good."
