The picks are in for the Seahawks' Week 3 game against the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers, a team Seattle has topped four times in a row dating back to the 2014 regular season and seven of eight times since December 2012, including one postseason win.
Sunday's game marks the 35th regular-season meeting between the two clubs, with the Seahawks owning a 19-15 advantage. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. PT at CenturyLink Field with live television coverage on FOX (channel 13 in Seattle).
Here's a look around the web at who the local and national media are predicting to win this weekend:
Sheil Kapadia at ESPN.com predicts a 24-16 Seattle win, "They have scored only one touchdown on 22 offensive possessions, but look for the Seahawks to focus on a couple specific things in Week 3. One is running the ball out of spread looks, which is their best hope with the ground game. The other is taking shots downfield to guys such as Tyler Lockett, Doug Baldwin and Paul Richardson. The offense is certainly different with Russell Wilson battling an ankle injury, but if the Seahawks can find a couple answers, the defense will be able to hold Blaine Gabbert in check. It might not be a comfortable win, but in the end, the Seahawks improve to 2-1."
Nick Wagoner at ESPN.com sees a 16-13 Seahawks victory, "If ever there was a time for the Niners to jump up and knock off Seattle, this would seem to be the week. With Russell Wilson hobbled, Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett and Thomas Rawls battling bumps and bruises, and an offensive line that has struggled, the 49ers have a decent shot to beat the Seahawks in Seattle for the first time since 2011. But the 49ers have enough offensive woes of their own, and quarterback Blaine Gabbert's inconsistency -- 30th in the NFL in passer rating (74.4), 32nd in yards per attempt (5.82), 31st in yards per dropback (5.68) and 31st in completion percentage (54.9) -- will leave San Francisco with its fifth straight loss to the Seahawks."
Peter Schrager at FOXSports.com takes the Seahawks to win 23-17, "The 49ers have not beaten the Seahawks since Richard Sherman batted away Colin Kaepernick's pass to Michael Crabtree in the back of the end zone back in the NFC Championship Game at the end of the 2013 season. I like the way the 49ers responded to falling behind big in Carolina last week. Showed me they're going to fight every week. Tough one in Seattle this weekend, though."
Chris Burke at SI.com has the Seahawks winning 24-7, "Two teams tied for first place but also tied for last place, so I guess it all depends on how you look at it. Remarkably, the 49ers have been the more impressive of the two in a lot of ways, including on offense. They haven't been good, mind you—Blaine Gabbert remains the random number generator of quarterbacks—but the 49ers have hung up 40 more points than Seattle so far. Flip side, Seattle has allowed just 19 total points; San Francisco coughed up 46 last week. Chip Kelly's team will struggle to move the ball at times, which is just part of its reality right now. San Francisco's hope of keeping it close rests in its underrated front seven. If the 49ers can keep Russell Wilson pinned in the pocket, they might make a game of it."
Elliot Harrison at NFL.com picks Seattle to win 30-10 over San Francisco, "Gabbertmania -- or what's left of it -- gets squashed in Seattle. The San Francisco offense showed much promise in Week 1, producing a few big plays (SEE: Vance McDonald) last Sunday. But this week, the Niners draw a ticked-off Seahawks defense. ... the 49ers haven't won in the Pacific Northwest since Jim Harbaugh's first year coaching in San Francisco. The 49ers wideouts don't match up well against this D. Nor does the ground attack. In other news, 80 percent of Wilson > Gabbert."
Pete Prisco at CBSSports.com thinks the Seahawks will register their first takeaway of the season, predicting a 23-13 Seattle win, "Seattle gets after Blaine Gabbert and gets a defensive score to win it."
