Pete Carroll Shares Updates On Jimmy Graham and Thomas Rawls Heading Into Seahawks Regular-Season Opener vs Miami Dolphins

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll shared updates on the status of tight end Jimmy Graham, running back Thomas Rawls, and defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

To begin his Wednesday press conference at Virginia Mason Athletic Center, Pete Carroll was asked about how Jimmy Graham's chances of playing in the regular-season opener have changed since the Seattle head coach last updated the media on Monday

"His chances are the same," Carroll said. "They're good."

Graham, who has been practicing "full go" in recent weeks after recovering from offseason surgery on his knee, is taking it "one day at a time" at practice heading into Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins at CenturyLink Field.

Graham is listed as the first-string tight end on the team's initial depth chart, but as Carroll noted, "That's an unofficial depth chart, right?" Carroll said Graham needs to show "more of the same" on the practice field before making a decision on whether or not he'll suit up against the Dolphins, a decision that could come later in the week or go all the way up to game-time.

"The comfort to really full out in everything that we're doing and respond from those days and feel really good about it," Carroll said of what he needs to see from Graham. "Us feeling good about it and him feeling good about it as well."

The "only restriction" for running back Thomas Rawls, meanwhile, who saw his first game-action since last December's ankle injury in the preseason finale last week, will be with "how he's taking the rigors of the game."

"Just in the amount of plays," Carroll said of what limitations remain for Rawls at this point. "Just in the amount of plays. It's the second preseason game for him if you look at it that way. We're trying to take care of him as we've said all along and in any way that we can. So just going to watch and see how he handles it. That's all. It's just to see how he handles it."

Additionally, rookie defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who has been battling a toe injury, is on track to play against Miami.

"He's going to practice today, he's fine," said Carroll. "He's got to make it through the practices, though. He's got to survive the practices, but he's fine going in."
