Ziggy Ansah "Ready To Go" & Other Seahawks Injury Updates From Pete Carroll

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided injury updates following Monday’s practice as the team readies for its first game of the 2019 regular season.

The Seahawks were on the field for a "Bonus Monday" practice ahead of their regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, a practice that included Jadeveon Clowney, who was acquired in a trade over the weekend.

But Clowney wasn't the only Pro-Bowl defensive end on the field getting ready for Sunday's game. Ziggy Ansah, whose 2018 season was cut short by a shoulder injury, returned to practice last week and was back at it on Monday getting ready for his Seahawks debut.

"He practiced last week, he's practicing now," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "He'll have two weeks under his belt, which is one more than Jadeveon's got. For Ziggy, he practiced and worked out with us, and worked out hard for six weeks or something all through camp and all that. He did a really good job through the process, and he's in good shape and he's ready to go."

Here are the other injury updates Carroll provided following Monday's practice:

G Mike Iupati

Iupati, the projected starter at left guard, is still hoping for a Week 1 return, but Carroll said the Seahawks will be cautious with the veteran lineman. Iupati missed almost all of camp with foot and calf injuries. If he doesn't play, look for Ethan Pocic to start in his place.

"Mike's competing for it," Carroll said. "He's going for it, we'll see what happens. You talk to Mike, he says he's going to get ready to go. So we'll see what that means. We're going to be careful. It's so early in the going, we've got to make sure we get him back and keep him back, so we'll figure it out."

WR DK Metcalf

Metcalf had minor knee surgery following Seattle's second preseason game, but was back on the practice field Monday for the first time since that procedure.

"He looked good today," Carroll said. "He had a fantastic recovery. He looked great out there today, he was running, he practiced with us throughout the practice."

DE L.J. Collier

Collier, Seattle's first round pick this year, missed most of camp and the preseason with an ankle injury, but was doing on-field work Monday.

"L.J. did a really nice job getting out there today," Carroll said. "He was on the practice field working. He's on his way back."

LB Shaquem Griffin

Griffin, who has been dealing with a knee injury since the preseason opener, left last week's game early after that injury flared up, but was back on the field Monday, and should be ready for Sunday's game if he gets through the week OK.

"He practiced hard today," Carroll said. "Again, it'll come back to him returning, but if he makes it back on Wednesday and he's going, then I think we're in good shape."

S Marquise Blair

Like Griffin, Blair returned from an injury to play last week, only to leave the game early. Blair, who is dealing with a back bruise, also practiced and is on track to play if the injury doesn't flare up again during the week.

"He went today," Carroll said. "The concern is—he made it to game time last week and we played him, then he got jolted and it kind of stoved up a little bit. But he came out of it really well, he was good the next day, so maybe he's over the hump, we'll see. It'll take us all week to figure that out. We would love to have him active."

C Joey Hunt

Hunt sprained his ankle in Seattle's third preseason game and did not play last week.

"He's out of the boot, he's walking around," Carroll said. "He's still stiff and working. We'll see, it'll take him a bit. I don't have a timeline on that."

WR David Moore

Unlike the players listed above, Moore, who has a fracture in his humerus bone, is a player who will definitely be out for the opener and likely beyond.

"Nothing is going to change for a while," Carroll said. "He had a crack in his shoulder, so he's just got to wait it out. He feels pretty darn good. That's the problem with it, it's not hindering him in any way, there's no displacement, so he's going to feel like he's ready to play in a week or so, but he won't be able to for a while. We've got to wait it out."
